WASHINGTON, August 8, 2014 –  Just released is that shortly after 10am this morning, US fighters hit an ISIS mortar position, and the site, just outside of Erbil was destroyed.   At 11:20am Eastern time, four F-18 fighter jets took off the carrier George H.W. Bush, flew and struck seven ISIS vehicles  A total of eight bombs were dropped on the motor position and the convey of vehicles.

The mortar position was attacked by drones.

The US is striking out against anything, any target of opportunity, that threatens American interests in Erbil, including about 40 or so US military advisors that are in Erbil.  The area has been a Kurdish area and of concern is how quickly ISIS was able to threaten Erbil which was considered to be a safe place for these American advisors to station.

These operations are very dangerous, and the are attempting to fly out of range of ground to air missels, and US pilots and personnel are at risk.
