ST. LOUIS, July 30, 2015 – The debate on illegal immigration continues, with Donald Trump making headlines with his latest statements. It is perplexing how anyone can say illegal immigration is a good thing. “Illegal” means it is against the law. Since when did we start saying something that is illegal is good?
It seems no one wants to follow the law when it comes to immigration. The Constitution mentions naturalization. Article. I, Section 8 notes the authority of the Congress,: “To establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization.”
Thus, from a constitutional standpoint, it is the responsibility of Congress to establish all laws and rules of naturalization or immigration.
So why is the current administration trying to make decisions that are outside the purview of the executive branch?
Luckily for President Obama, Congress is choosing the route of “all talk, no action,” so the White House has nothing to worry about.
The open border creates a multitude of problems. Illegals coming across the border are not screened or checked when they come into the country. They could have ties to terrorists or cartels, or terrorists could just use the path illegals use to come into the country.
Because illegals cannot work legally — they are breaking the law — they are more likely than others to end up on welfare. If you can’t work, you can’t make money, so you have to rely on the government. This strains our already stretched benefit program.
Also, because these people are illegally in the United States, they are prone to become involved in criminal activities. Maybe it is out of desperation, because they can’t work legally, but many illegal immigrants end up adding to the crime problem in this country.
America has been outstanding in eliminating certain diseases inside its borders. But illegals do not have the same healthcare or vaccines. They bring the possibility of typhoid, measles, malaria, scabies and other diseases.
No nation can survive without preserving its own unique identity, language and culture.
Anyone who wants to live in America should respect our laws and make a choice to be American. If they come illegally, they are already showing lack of respect for America.
It is the responsibility of our government to protect our traditions and culture and any politician or leader who fails to acknowledge that responsibility is not only lacking in patriotism, but integrity as well.
However, that’s from a time and place I am from.
