WASHINGTON, June 13, 2016 – The shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando has a global impact far beyond the individuals in the club that night. In addition to their families and friends, there are those whose lives were quietly touched on a daily basis who have lost a smile, a wave, a cheerful “have a good day.”
The loss is far beyond the individual lives; it is what those lives could have contributed to the world. It is the discoveries they might have made, the service they might have performed, the compassion and love they brought to worlds they inhabited.
This young man was like many young men, and women, that work and impact our lives. Vielma worked at Universal Studios and I believe our lives intersected. I did not know him or his name. We were not friends, just acquaintances. But Luis Vielma did make an impact on my life, no matter how brief or seemingly inconsequential.
Our loss of this brilliant young man, and the many others that died, will waterfall to change our world in ways we will never know because when a madman commits terror, he takes more than lives, he takes the unlimited potential of those lives.
