WASHINGTON, December 9, 2013 — The kids are always excited beyond belief when a snow day is announced but once they become too tired or too cold to continue playing in the snow, what is a parent to do with a bored child?
Schools and the federal government are closed today in the Washington D.C. area, but there are still some activities open if people can get to them.
All of the Smithsonian museums are open. The National Zoo is closed. The Metro system is also up and working although there may be some delays especially on the Red line, to help families get to the museums.
The shopping malls in the area are doing prime business with shoppers taking advantage of a day off to get Christmas shopping done. Almost all of the area’s shopping malls have entertainment for the children. Most have at least a small indoor playground for the toddlers to climb on and today there will be plenty of other children to interact and play with there.
For the older children, the movies at the shopping malls are in full operation with favorites for younger audiences playing such as “Frozen” and “Catching Fire.”
Take great caution if driving on the snow covered roads, take it slow and easy. Remember, there is a reason schools closed down today.
