WASHINGTON– This Saturday, October 5th, 2019, Washington D.C. will host its first Open Streets DC event. Closing approximately three miles of Georgia Avenue will allow pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter riders to enjoy a car-free zone from 10 am to 2 pm.
Capital Bikeshare will be giving out free 24-Hour Passes on October 5th, so people can enjoy free Capital Bikeshare rides for the event and all day long. During the event, DC Bike Fair will be at Bruce Monroe Park (Columbia Road & Georgia Ave) with cycling ambassadors encouraging folks to try out a ride.
How to redeem the free 24-Hour Pass:
- Download the Capital Bikeshare App
- Click on “Choose a pass” and select “24-Hour Pass”
- Click on “Add promo code” and enter “OpenStreetsDC”
- Enter your account information
In addition to the seven stations currently along the route, Capital Bikeshare will have a hub at the DC Bike Fair at Bruce Monroe Park (Columbia Road & Georgia Ave) and near the Petworth Metro Station. It will also offer three corral locations. Meaning you won’t have to worry about finding a spot to dock your bike.

- Fairmont & Georgia Ave (Howard campus)
- Emerson & Georgia Ave
