Living with ALS: Revisiting the world through quotes and pictures
CHARLOTTE, NC, December 31, 2017 — As another year fades into the pages of history and a new year begins, it is always a good time to reflect upon recent bygone days and recall the blessings of life. Particularly, to consider, what living with ALS means.
Two Years Post ALS Diagnosis
Since being diagnosed with ALS nearly two years ago, one of my personal struggles has been to understand just exactly what is meant by the phrase “quality of life.”
In a sense “quality of life” for me, anyway, is a bit of an oxymoron because ALS has allowed me more time to travel. More time to reflect on the world as I know it and wish to perceive it. Time to savor precious moments with family and friends that used to escape me.
Living with ALS has put me in a position to experience life in a deeper, richer and more meaningful environment than ever before.
Not that my disabilities have been fun or easy to overcome, but rather, in a strange and interesting way, they have forced me to slow down and enjoy the time I have had and the life I have remaining.
The passion to travel uninterrupted
For more than half of my life travel has been my passion.
My goal continues to be to visit one hundred or more countries during my lifetime. This year I added eight new destinations, despite living with ALS, which is probably a personal annual record. At that rate, I could reach my goal in less than three years.
Over the years I have met many people who share my wanderlust spirit and equally as many who could not care less about venturing beyond our borders.
Images of the world captured through travel
Two more of my “quality of life” enjoyments are great quotes and photographs of the sites and sights I have been fortunate enough to experience.
And so, on this final day of 2017, I would like to share 25 of my favorite travel quotes along with pictures of some of the magical places I have been fortunate enough to have experienced at least once and now and then, on multiple occasions.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I cherish sharing them with you.
Wishing you a Happy, Joyous and Prosperous New Year.
