BUENA PARK, CA: Residential fireworks, mortar type fireworks are shot off in neighborhoods all across the US on the 4th of July. Indeed, in most cites there is a ban on these types of fireworks for civilians. As a matter of fact most fireworks in general are banned in highly populated cities. My city is no exception.
We live two hours from the Mexican border. Not surprisingly, a lot of people travel to Mexico to buy fireworks that are illegal in our cities in preparation for Independence Day.
Whether you agree they should be legal or not is really irrelevant in my opinion because they are banned in most cities and the law is clear but largely not enforced. I would guess this is because of the sheer number of people firing them off. You would need an army of police to patrol neighborhoods in order to stop it. It’s impossible and it’s never going to happen!
There plenty of legal fireworks to be had that are not a hazard to your neighbors.
For those of us who find it dangerous and loud, we suffer each year. My family and I contemplated leaving for the night but didn’t go. Why should I have to leave my home, spend the money it would cost to stay the night at a hotel just so I can enjoy my 4th of July? Why should I have to listen to all the noise, smell of the smoke, live through some tense moments of worrying about our house catching fire?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate fireworks at all. What I don’t like, is the mortar or cluster fireworks for those reasons. I feel they are dangerous and banned for a reason and people should accept this. There plenty of legal fireworks to be had and that are not threatening to your neighbors.
So why do people still want to use illegal fireworks? Because they are bigger and larger than life over the top!
I literally had parts of the exploded firework pieces raining down on us and our house this year. It was bigger and louder than previous years. I live across the street from a fire station and I know they can’t do a dang thing but they must shake their heads watching all this foolishness! Yes I called it foolishness.
When I was a kid, I was happy with sparklers folks! My parents took us to see fireworks at a designated area; safe and controlled. These days it’s all about bigger and bigger yet, and what can I get away with?
Let us know what your thoughts are. My family differs in opinion like many other families do; my husband doesn’t mind them and I do! Leave us a comment. We would really like to hear your opinion on this subject; watch the video and tell us what you think. Thank you and we appreciate you!
