SAN DIEGO, Calif., November 10, 2017 – It’s the semifinals for the five remaining couples on “Dancing With The Stars.” It’s do or die to make it to next week’s finals. It’s the worst week to go home, just one performance shy of a shot at the Mirror Ball Trophy.
The couples are rehearsing two critical routines they hope will dazzle the judges and delight the fans. With just five couples competing, all at a fairly high level, it’s largely up to the fans who stays on the show and who goes. Case in point: last week’s departure of Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke. Terrell’s fans let him down just as he hit his groove on the dance floor, showing the most improvement of any competitor according to judge Len Goodman. The opposite was true for Drew Scott whose Property Brothers fans have been propping up his low scores with votes.
This week’s numbers are fairly straightforward, thank goodness. The first is a regular couples’ dance but with a twist, as the
pro partners have personally chosen the song for the celebrities. The second is a special Iconic Dance. What’s that you ask? It’s a well-received dance from a previous season, which the current competitors are asked to reinterpret for this all-important semifinals extravaganza.
For the first dance, each couple will perform a tango, salsa, Argentine tango, contemporary or waltz. For the Iconic Dance, each will perform a jazz, paso doblé, jive, tango or Charleston. The Iconic Dance scores will be combined with the celebrity’s individual dance scores for a final tally. At the end of the night, based on scores and votes from last Monday, one couple will feel that Mirror Ball Trophy slip through their fingers as they are eliminated in the semifinals, just one week shy of the finals.
