WASHINGTON, May 18, 2017 – Legendary Fox News founder Roger Ailes was found dead Thursday morning at the age of 77. The time, place and cause of his death had not been released as of this writing.
Originally hailing from Ohio, Ailes’ storied career ranged from serving as an advisor to U.S. presidents to his audacious but highly successful establishment of the fledgling Fox News Network as a major force in cable and network news. Until just recently, Fox News had long been rated the #1 cable news network.
Ailes marketed Fox News as TV’s only “fair and balanced” source for the accurate reporting of news and opinion. This set Fox apart from all other major networks, which, over the years, had gradually become no more than the publicity arms of the Democrats and the radical left.
“Fair and balanced” was, of course, largely in the eye of the beholder. Until fairly recently, Fox served as the only outlet on network TV regularly airing conservative political and social points of view. Yet the network under Ailes long served as a much-needed counterbalance to the left-wing politics preached by ABC, NBC, CBS and their various subsidiary organizations.
Recently, however, Ailes was forced to resign from Fox News under a hail of sexual harassment accusations and lawsuits, not all of which had been resolved at the time of his death.
According to Fox News, Ailes’ widow, Elizabeth Ailes, has made the following statement:
“I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning. Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise—and to give back.”Click here for reuse options!
