Need a break from the Best Tax Code Ever? Here it is

Written By | Apr 16, 2015

WASHINGTON, April 16, 2015 – The yearly anniversary celebrating working Americans’ inalienable right to send the IRS and the Obama administration more of their wages than any government has the right to justify has come, and gone, once again.

Just look at all you get in return: Obamacare-generated part-time employment, stagnant wages, green cars that you pay for but only the 1 percent can afford, asinine foreign agreements with our closest friends like the Iranians… the list goes on and on.

And you’re paying for it all, while doing mass quantities of paperwork besides. Unless you’re among the roughly 50 percent of Americans who don’t have to pay a dime in federal taxes at all. Or an illegal immigrant who pays no taxes but gets free college tuition at your expense.

So what the heck. Why don’t you take a break from sitting there pulling what’s left of your hair out trying to finish that return or from writing an unhappy check to your tax preparer or CPA who’s doing it for you, and listen to the fun-loving dudes from as they channel One Direction to help you understand the tax code. Trust them. They feel your pain. Even more than Hillary and Bill, because they don’t pay as much as you do. (Because foundations and stuff.)

This YouTube video is written and performed by Remy, with music tracks and background vocals by Ben Karlstrom. Produced and edited by Meredith Bragg. Lyrics follow the video, in case you want to sing along.

Make them pay four months of earnings (oh, that’s a good one),
Have them look for lost receipts (ooh, I like it!)
They’ll have about as much fun
as their last colonoscopy.
People everywhere will get ripped off…
the paper version of the Apple Watch,

And we’ll dance all night, it’s the best code ever.
Some folks pay a lot, others they pay never,
And you’ll get tax breaks if you’re really clever.
It’ll take so long, it’s the best code ever.
They’ll be like “oh, oh no.”
We’ll be like “yeah, yeah, yeah.”
We’ll be like “awww.”

You may have heard that all your info
on our systems can be hacked with ease.
But rest assured if they don’t get them
they’ll be in the care of folks like these.
Yes, historians will all agree,
among the greatest works in history.

And we’ll dance all night, it’s the best code ever.
Some folks pay a lot, others they pay never,
And if you don’t comply you’ll go to jail; however,
Why would you not file? It’s the best code ever.
They’ll be like “Oh, oh no.”
We’ll be like “yeah, yeah, yeah.”
