WASHINGTON. Netflix has decided to ax “The Break With Michelle Wolf.” Netflix began airing the first season of this allegedly comic production not long after the vulgarian comic shocked even liberal journalists attending the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Now, she’s terminated.
Netflix gives the hook to Michelle Wolf
The popular streaming service initially hyped the Wolf series, and it gained mostly positive ratings at Rotten Tomatoes. However, it doesn’t appear that the show’s ratings – no doubt mostly from liberal critics – had much to do with real-world viewer numbers at Netflix, according to the London Daily Mail.
“Netflix has cancelled The Break With Michelle Wolf, according to Deadline.… Even though Netflix typically does not release ratings for its shows, a source told Deadline, ‘neither show drew enough viewership to secure a renewal.’”
However, there may be additional reasons behind Netflix’ tight-lipped decision to axe Wolf and her show. The Daily Mail almost inadvertently touches upon one of them.
“The comedian was encouraging her viewers to begin harassing politicians more often, and as an example of how best to engage offered up some ways to get under the first daughter’s skin.
“’If you see Ivanka on the street, first call her Tiffany. This will devastate her,’ said Wolf.
“’Then talk to her in terms she will understand. Say: “Ivanka, you’re like vaginal mesh. You were supposed to support women but now you have blood all over you and you’re the center of a thousand lawsuits.”‘
“The episode came just two months after her polarizing performance at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, in which she famously poked fun at White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders.”
Ivanka is like “vaginal mesh?” How, by any definition, is this simile funny?
Another Stalinist comic has gone too far
Joining forces with the disgraced Kathy Griffin, the odious congresswoman Maxine Waters and others, Michelle Wolf added her voice to a growing number of politicians, fake news journalists and Hollywood types. This leftist mob blithely “suggests” that anyone to the right of Josef Stalin should be harassed, attacked and hounded – or worse – whenever they appear in public.
Radical leftists like Michelle Wolf have gleefully jumped on this blanket permission slip as an excuse to drive Trump administration officials and supporters from restaurants and harass them in grocery stores. And, during political demonstrations and counter-demonstrations, beat them to a bloody pulp when the cops conveniently look the other way.
So much for “tolerance.”
On her Netflix show, Wolf’s strong “comic” suggestion that listeners join the crowd of vulgar, violent and intolerant Stalinist harassers may have been a step too far, even for Netflix’ left-wing, Silicon Valley-style upper management.
Trash and harass Republicans: The ultimate in virtue-signaling
Trashing Trump officials and Trump supporters is a virtue-signaling given in today’s entertainment world. But suggesting that lefties move from vulgar rhetoric to harassment and potential violence against citizens and families that don’t share their radical views is something that gets the attention of corporate lawyers. Even the liberal ones advising Netflix.
Add to this the apparently poor ratings for the Michelle Wolf show, and she gets canceled. At least money still tops left-wing politics in the business and entertainment worlds
Ejected by Netflix, Michelle Wolf joins the disgraced Kathy Griffin in the Deranged Fake Comedians Hall of Fame. In a just world, both of these nasty harpies would have a lot more company.
Yet for decades, the Alinskyite left continues to openly encourage this kind of blind, stupidity, intolerance and outright hatred in the academic, political and entertainment worlds.
The slow, ugly demise of the Great American Late Night Talk Show
A prime example: Note the fairly recent, radical transformation of America’s traditional late-night talk shows. Like NBC’s durable Tonight Show and its various competitors. Once the home of genial comedians like Johnny Carson who opened their shows with genuinely funny yet inoffensive monologues, today’s late-night TV has turned into a sewer of #NeverTrump All The Time.
Prime time and late-night audiences are steadily shrinking. At least in part, audiences now take advantage of the availability and abundance of streaming entertainment alternatives. But the late night fake comedians have also permanently alienated roughly 50 percent of their audience. They accomplish this by insulting them and their beliefs each and every night. That’s hardly good for business. But thus far, the virtue-signaling networks don’t seem to care. The insulted class simply tunes out.
So where does it end? It could take decades to reverse today’s poisonous politics. Indeed, we wonder if we can ever return to an era of genuine tolerance. The last time this country experienced this was in the decade after the Second World War.
Some rational observations
In a June 20, 2018 article in The Federalist, Kelsey Harkness wonders how this all would all work out if the tables were turned on the hard-left “Democrats” who are egging the intolerant on.
“Are Republicans justified in harassing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi during a private dinner because of her unrelenting support for sanctuary cities? How about Bill and Hillary Clinton, whose administration got us into this mess in the first place. Do they deserve to dine alone?
“Cheering on and encouraging mob rule is not just bad politics. It’s bad for civil society. No matter how egregious the situation, we don’t teach our children that it’s ever acceptable to bully others. So it’s strange that alleged feminists like Wolf would change the standard and argue the opposite — that bullying is justified, so long as you have the right reason.”
With regard to Michelle Wolf, rational individuals can at least take heart. This alleged comic and her gleeful, unfunny hatred of reasonable people will no longer receive mass oxygen via Netflix.
As for equal treatment and respect for the facts? Let’s just say we won’t hold our collective breath on this one.
