Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (links) and Thursday holiday television schedule

Thanksgiving is the official start to the holiday season and it starts with the Macy’s Day Parade wrapped with a full day of new and traditional television viewing. So take a break from the feasting, kick up your feet (slice of pumpkin pie is optional) and forget about work for the day.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2014 starts at 9 am with the catchphrase “Let’s Have a Parade” from Central Park West and 77th Street traveling down Central Park West then across Central Park South before heading down 6th Avenue ending on 34th Street at Macy’s.

The parade features more than 8,000 participants in costumes, wrangling the giant balloons or in marching bands before a live audience of more than 3.5 million and a nationwide television gathering of more than 50 million viewers. The Broadway spectacle will also feature a special sneak preview performance from NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!” which premieres December 4.

This years parade’s features 16 giant character balloons; 33 novelty/ornament balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 27 floats; 1,300 cheerleaders and dancers; 1,000 clowns; 12 marching bands; and a host of celebrity performers.”


Performers include Big Apple Circus, Before You Exit, William Blake, Sabrina Carpenter, Cirque du Soleil, Hilary Duff, Renée Fleming, Becky G, Lucy Hale, Nick Jonas, KISS, Sandra Lee, The Madden Brothers, Idina Menzel, Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez, MKTO, the cast and Muppets of Sesame Street, NEEDTOBREATHE, NHL legends John LeClair and Pat LaFontaine, Pentatonix, Romeo Santos, Cole Swindell, Meghan Trainor, The Vamps, and Quvenzhané Wallis. Marching bands from 12 high schools and universities and numerous performance groups will also bring energy to the route.

Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie of NBC’s Today will anchor the broadcast.
