SAN DIEGO, May 30, 2015 – An appreciative roar went up at the end of last week’s episode of “Game of Thrones” from fans who finally saw Cersei Baratheon get a little bit of what’s been coming to her for a long time, courtesy of the High Sparrow. As this week’s episode begins, she’s in her own jail cell along with Margaery and Loras Tyrell, trying to figure out how the heck it all happened. But we know our Cersei and she will remain defiant to the end, whatever end this may be.
But it wasn’t the big game changer scene. The honor goes to the first face-to-face meeting between Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister, a meeting that never came about in the first five novels. It didn’t go so well. How might this change Dany’s plans for ascending the Iron Throne? How does Tyrion feel about this, and what part will he play if any? Their conversation will have fans hanging on every word this week.
Jorah Mormont wasn’t given such a warm welcome back either, and if his secret gets out about his grayscale infection, he won’t be staying long. Here’s predicting he goes out in some sort of blaze of glory yet to be determined. Again, it’s all new territory apart from the novels.
The other major storyline finds Jon Snow and Tormund Giantsbane arriving at Hardhome to meet with the Free Folk and persuade them to join their fight to take back Winterfell, and then figure out what to do about the White Walkers.
But we’re getting way ahead of ourselves.
This alliance is far from assured. Wildlings don’t have much use for Crows. We get to meet a new Wildling Warrior woman. Her name is Karsi. Will she side with her people staying out of things, or see the wisdom of combining forces? And what does Jon Snow know?
While Stannis Baratheon marches toward Winterfell, Sansa Stark remains caught in her own war inside the castle. She confronts Theon/Reek again; will it get her anything but more trouble at the hands of their torturer Ramsay Bolton?
We are to the point of the season where plot setups are turning to payoffs. Fans who have grown impatient, discouraged or even angry at the harsh treatment of some of the characters, consider how satisfying it will be when those responsible finally get hit by the Westeros karma train.
