The audacity of Kim Kardashian’s derrière: The train wreck of the vain

WASHINGTON, November 13, 2014 – Kim Kardashian and her grossly enlarged ass is the poster child for a culture that tells women they physically need to change how they look in order to be acceptable.

In the process of Kardashian’s surgically enhanced changes, she has become a characterization of a woman and, excuse the pun, the butt of jokes from social media, including her beloved Instagram, to the late night TV talk show host.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that in 2013 Americans spent the largest amount on cosmetic surgery since the great recession of 2008 with women having more than 10.3 millions cosmetic procedures.

The days of plastic surgery being synonymous with nose job are long gone. Liposuction is the most common procedure requested, followed by breast augmentation. Nose surgery is at the bottom of the list now.

What is alarming, however is that buttock augmentation and labiaplasty (altering the skin around a woman’s vulva, or external genitalia, done cosmetically to remove signs of aging) which have not previously been considered ‘popular’ took the top spots for the most significant increases in number of procedures performed over the course of a one-year period – with buttock augmentation in the lead with a 58% increase and labiaplasty coming in second with a 44% increase compared to 2012. Ground zero of the rounded Latin butt, is Jennifer Lopez who has remarkable, and what appear to this untrained eye, natural curves.

Not like the characterization that are Kim K. and Niki Minaj.

That rounder derriere is achieved via a variety of procedures; the Brazilian butt lift being the most common. However, women can opt to have silicon implants, not unlike breast implants.

Often to disastrous results.

During the process of a Brazilian Butt Lift, liposuction is performed on the abdomen, hips, waist, lower back and thighs. The healthy fat that is collected is then strategically added to the buttocks to add shape and contour. The entire procedure takes between two and two and a half hours and costs between $8,000 and $10,000.

“I am seeing a tremendous rise in requests for buttock augmentation procedures in my practice year-over-year,” explains Constantino Mendieta, MD, an ASAPS member who specializes in the buttock augmentation procedure. “We take fat from unwanted areas and transfer it to the buttock region, allowing us to shape and mold the posterior.”

IN 2013, Kim famously had her derrière xrayed to show that there were no surgical implants. Well with a fat grafting procedure there are no implants to be seen, but collectively we cannot believe for a second that her butt expansion comes from anything other than plastic surgery.

And therein lies the very, very dangerous message of Kim Kardashian. She is famous, in that Seinfeldian way, for nothing. And she continues to enhance her fame, as she does her butt, with injections of fat, but little substance.

And that message is not positive for women, or men, of any age.

Dr. Michael Edwards, president of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) says that woman wanting to enhance their derrière need to consider what their motivations are, what they want to achieve with any plastic surgery.

“Before you do anything, do your homework and go to someone with the proper training who can talk to you about not only achieving a good esthetic result but also take care of you from beginning to end,” Dr. Edwards says. “Seek a well trained, board certified surgeon and do your homework and interviews. Safety is not sexy but it is so very important.”

Asking Dr. Edwards about the technique known as the Brazilian Butt Lift, he cautioned that it must be done in a clean, sterile environment where the fat is removed from one part of the body and grafted to another.

He cautioned that fat is living tissue. You can’t use cadaver fat or another person’s fat, because your body will mostly reject that fat. You also have to consider how much fat you want to move from one area to the other.

“When someone has a fat grafting as an adjunct to facial surgery, minimal amounts of fat are used,” Dr. Edwards says. “When you do a surgery to have an effect of a vastly enlarged derrière it requires 100s of cc’s of fat that have been removed, processed, cleaned. And that fat has to come from the person getting the lift.”

“Additionally, when you put fat in, it is more than just putting the fat under the skin, that fat is a living cell and it has to have blood supply or it will die. The surgeon has to have the skill to vascularize the fat, layer, to make sure the fat layer has access to the micro vascular supply otherwise it could die, slough off, turn into an oil cyst, and become a problem that will require restorative surgeries.”

When it comes to fat, gravity is a bitch. As a woman of a certain age, I surely know that fat, as we age, droops. What about the massive amounts of fat in Kim Kardashian’s butt?

“Certainly ten years from now, if she has another baby, that fat will gain and grow and her buttocks could enlarge as they do in any person that gains weight,” Dr. Edward’s says. “Two things can happen to a person who has had fat injections are that they could gain weight and when they do that fat is going to grow. Or as time goes on, with aging, the fat loses volume and it will sag.”

While Kim Kardashian has a fan base, don’t count me among them. Its not being anti-plastic sugery. Its being anti-stupidity. Any person, or organization that would mount a publicity stunt to “#break the Internet” needs to be publicly shamed, then deleted.

Please understand that the vast majority of men are attracted to cute tight butts like you see on your average college cheerleader. Very few men, at least white ones, are attracted to giant behinds like this. I have no idea how some women have gotten the idea that men are interested in them.

    • I absolutely don’t get it. But I know more and more young women in the “limelight’ are choosing this procedure… and according to stats, its among the fastest growing segments of elective surgeries. And for those thinking about it… it will sag. Just like really large breasts with a lot of fat… the fat, with time, breaks down and they sad. So will Kim’s butt — leading to more surgeries — and the more you have, the more dangerous they are.

The funniest thing about it is that getting a natural big butt is the easiest thing to do! Just eat a bit more. All you have to do is be a bit chubbier than what would be considered totally thin. Women are lucky in that fat actually looks good on the female body and is what makes you look sexy (Within reason obviously. Completely fat women don’t look attractive, but ‘thick’ ones? Yes)

    • Mike

Not true, I love big butts and hate small ones but Kim Kardashian’s is definitely unnatural and the result of augmentation. That’s why it looks so bad.

  • StanleyK

Kim and Minaj look cartoonish. Kim, in particular, looks horrible now in jeans or tight pants. It looks like she’s wearing “Depends” that need to be changed.

i spent a lifetime hating a bubble butt, and the frame with it. Its not entirely true what the doctors say here, I’m half black and so is a sister who was told that our backsides were too round .waist too small in proportion for the figure 8 proportions which were European-Asian at the time. We’re small framed but have naturally, .round derrieres, what Kim doesn’t do to well imitating. I was teased on a swim team in a predominantly white prep high school for having a round butt the way some girls are teased for having large breasts. Accept, bubble butts were far from popular. In ballet class a flat european/asian looking butt was all the rage so the hips would align undler the pelvic girdle.

.Saying all that, most black women or women of african diaspora were only considered attracted to men behind closed doors . Its sad commentary in our society that it took a white / half middle easter woman with a naturally flat in the backside (til 2008) to inject herself with so much fat she became freakishly round and distorted back there .. to make the world took notice. Just why???

Apologies for the typos/grammar. Typing a bit too quickly, not wanting to give this any more attention than it deserves 🙂

      • PsychClone

No apology necessary. Even the author didn’t adhere to proper grammar: “Its being anti-stupidity”? Oh the irony.

        • Tiffany

I’m going to blame it on my “smart” phone

    • Tiffany

Thank! Give them something real to think about!!!!

  • Amadaun

Between Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton we have less measurable brain mass than we would find in an amoeba. Yet their bank accounts put them easily in the 1%. The decline and fall of the West continues apace.

    • PsychClone

You think they’re in the 1%? LOL! You may want to do a little more reading sir.

Ms. Kubin has expressed my sentiments on the topic, to a T.
