Harvey Weinstein and the left’s newfound (fake) puritanism
WASHINGTON, October 11, 2017 — For decades, Hollywood as given movie viewers a steady stream of films telling us our evil Pentagon and its corporate allies (“the military industrial complex”) use their power to undermine our freedom and control us.
But it turns out that it’s America’s twisted, left-wing entertainment industry that is proving absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Take producer Harvey Weinstein… please.
It turns out that many a Hollywood starlet kept her silence as to the entertainment mogul’s Bill Clintonesque sexual antics, fearful the powerful filmmaker, so connected to Democratic presidents and congresspersons, might end their fledgling careers.
Take actress Ashley Judd… please.
“I am a nasty woman. I’m not as nasty as a man who looks like he bathes in Cheeto dust. A man whose words are a distract to America; Electoral College-sanctioned hate speech contaminating this national anthem.”
So said the actress the day the Cheeto-encrusted Donald Trump took the presidential oath of office. Until recently, she had little to say regarding her “nasty” encounters with Weinstein.
After all, he, like her, supported Hillary Clinton for president.
“In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of the Weinstein Company… have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately,” the production company said in a written statement.
Weinstein’s actions were well known within the industry and among the Weinstein Company’s directors, which did nothing about them until The New York Times made the producer’s boorish behavior a threat to the company’s bottom line.
Weinstein, like Hillary Clinton, is a victim of the extreme left’s new-found puritanism, which of late has focused its energies bringing down Confederate Civil War statues and stifling free speech at universities and in the public square.
In short, the left, in all its incarnations – from Lenin, Hitler, Ho Chi Minh and Nicolás Maduro – is in a state of exhaustion and has become cancer that, at long last, has begun devouring itself and not the innocent.
During the last presidential campaign, a former British spy was tasked by a company founded by American journalists to create a dubious dossier charging Donald Trump with performing kinky sexual acts while on business trips to Russia.
No one could have predicted it would be the left’s moral outrage over Bernie Sander’s trouncing by a corrupt Democratic Party machine that would prove Clinton’s undoing.
And candidate Trump wasted no time reminding female voters Hillary Clinton was an interictal part of her husband’s White House attack machine, intimidating the female victims of hubby Bill’s overactive libido.
Trump was attacked for his objectification and denigration of women in the closing days of the 2016 presidential campaign. But that objectification and denigration was oxygen for the two men most admired by today’s leaders of the Democratic Party: presidents John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton.
That’s because the left is comprised of posers and hypocrites. Their brand of puritanism is a sad counterfeit when compared to the original.
As Alexis de Tocqueville observed in his book “Democracy in America”:
“Earlier I said that I saw in the origin of the Americans, in what I called their point of departure, the first and most effective of all the causes to which one can attribute the present prosperity of the United States. The hazard of birth worked in the Americans’ favor: their forefathers long ago imported equality of conditions and of intelligence into the land they settled, and from these the democratic republic would one-day spring as from a natural source. And that is not all: along with a republican social state, they bequeathed to their descendants the habits, ideas, and mores most apt to give rise to a flourishing republic. When I reflect on what this original fact has produced, I see the entire destiny of America embodied in the first Puritan to land on its shores, just as the entire human race was embodied in the first man.”
A “point of departure” for these new puritans is the very idea of America. They are paid millions of dollars to wear NFL uniforms to play children’s games but kneel in opposition to America’s national anthem. One whose four stanzas end with the same question, “O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave o’re the land of the free and the home of the brave?”
The aforementioned kneeling puritans genuflect to a God unknown to the original Puritans. But it might be one among the pantheon of deities worshiped by one millionaire who pretends to be someone she isn’t.
As Meryl Streep said while accepting her best actress Academy Award for pretending to be Margaret Thatcher in the film “The Iron Lady,”
“I just wanna thank my agent Kevin Huvane and God, Harvey Weinstein…”
The puritanism of William Bradford (1590-1657), who penned the Mayflower Compact that served a perfect foundation upon which to build a nation of “just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices,” provided America’s Founders a people “endowed by their Creator” with “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The NFL’s knee-takers, Ashley Judd, Meryl Streep, Hillary Clinton are anything but happy. In fact, they are all as miserable as the false “god” with feet of clay, Harvey Weinstein.
Hardly the kind of puritans to preserve let alone “give rise to a flourishing republic.”
