‘Game of Thrones’: The Queen’s Justice, Jon and Dany meet

Jon + Danaerys = an epic meeting seven seasons in the making. But can an alliance be formed and hold long enough to defeat the White Walkers and the Army of the Undead?

SAN DIEGO, July 27, 2017 – Things got ugly quickly on Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” last week, didn’t it?

It’s not as if fans aren’t aware of even leading characters getting killed off in horrible ways out of nowhere to serve the story, no matter how attached we are to them. Count on new villains to emerge after others are dispatched.

Goodbye, Ramsey Bolton. Hello, Euron Greyjoy. Danish actor Pilou Asbaek says he modeled Euron’s swagger after MMA star Conor McGregor, “before he lost.” Ask me how much I love this.

But who survived Euron Greyjoy’s assault on his niece Yara’s armada? We know at least two women are dead, but are they Sand Snakes, Ellaria Sands, or Yara?

Putting together all the details and recalling what Euron told Cersei Lannister about bringing her back a gift, it now seems Euron took Ellaria Sand, her daughter Tyene, and Yara prisoner, and killed the two remaining Sand Snakes. It’s those ladies we saw draped and hung from the bow of Euron’s ship.

The title of this episode is “The Queen’s Justice.”

Expect Euron to hand over the Sand women to Cersei, who can reap an eye for an eye and then some in exchange for the poisoning death of her daughter, Myrcella. One woman’s justice is another woman’s revenge.

We’ll hold out some hope Yara is rescued by Daenerys Targaryen despite letting her down. Yara couldn’t rely on her brother, Theon, to return the favor after she rescued him. Is Theon a coward, or a canny survivor? We haven’t seen the last of him.

Euron’s storyline pales in comparison to the event fans have been waiting for seven seasons: the meeting between Jon Snow and Daenerys is upon us. See this week’s trailer.

Don’t expect things to go well. Jon Snow needs Danerys and her dragons as allies. Jon knows the Targaryens to be a little unhinged, but we also know he’s willing to build alliances with former enemies (the Free Folk) when it suits his needs. Expect him to remain wary of his Aunt Dany.

Danaerys sees the Starks as traitors because they threw in with Robert Baratheon and removed her father from the Iron Throne. She’ll ask Jon to “bend the knee.” In her position, it makes perfect sense. She believes herself to hold all the cards, and at the time of this meeting, she may not know yet about the destruction of Yara’s fleet by Euron Greyjoy. We know it’s not happening.

The release of additional photos show Danaerys conferring with Varys and sitting on the Dragonstone throne; Jon Snow stepping ashore, and Tyrion with concern on his face.

General Grey Worm bid goodbye to Missandei on the eve of leading the assault on Casterly Rock. We expect a lot of battle scenes in this short GOT season, so we could see this take place as well. Will Grey Worm survive? See ‘getting attached to GOT characters.’ The supposedly invincible Targaryen forces have already taken one blow.

Jaime and the Lannister forces are likely already en route to Highgarden to take out Lady Olenna and the Tyrells for their treachery in backing The Mother of Dragons.

We should not forget Sansa Stark seated on the throne (at least temporarily) at Winterfell. Littlefinger cannot wait to zero in on this juicy target. Sansa is the most transformed character in the entire GOT series, and she’s the one to bet on. She’s learned her lessons the hard way, and she’s learned them well. There aren’t too many long term survivors in Westeros. Sansa is one of them.

Summary: It’s complicated! Let’s sort it out as much as we can during our live chat while we watch on Sunday.
