Game of Thrones Spoils of War leaked onto Google Drive and Reddit

LOS ANGELES, August 4, 2017 – Game of Thrones The Spoils of War, episode 4 of Season 7 was leaked online before its premiere this Sunday. HBO executives have said the leak was not part of a recent hack of the network.

A stolen copy of the episode was available via Google Drive and links appeared on the discussion board site Reddit. The episode was leaked from HBO international network partner Star India.  The efforts of HBO to release episodes simultaneously via multiple cable providers around the world is said to be a reason for recent hacks and piracy.

Star India released a statement confirming the leak.

“This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”

Shortly after being posted on Reddit, the video was taken down from Google Drive. This is not the first time the popular show has been hit with piracy. In 2015, the first four episodes of season five appearing on dozens of piracy networks, after review screeners copied the videos. It is said Game of Thrones is the most pirated episodic show.

HBO had previously confirmed that hackers breached the company’s networks stealing more than 1.5 terabytes of documents and files including a script for the Aug. 6 ‘Game of Thrones’ episode and episodes of “Ballers,” “Insecure” and “Room 104.” HBO’s distribution of the popular fantasy show based on the books A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin, has struggled to secure its ‘Game of Thrones” programming from leaks.

“Game of Thrones” has become the most illegally downloaded show in the world. However, “Game of Thrones” continues to increase in popularity. This season’s premiere had more than 30 million viewers in the United States, shattering ratings records globally.

“Game of Thrones” is HBO’s prized possession and leaks are damaging the company’s image and finances.

As “Game of Thrones” nears its end, its in increasing becoming a prime target for leaks.

The FBI announced they are investigating the recent hacks.
