MEMPHIS, April 18, 2017 – One of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States is Elvis Presley’s Graceland. The museum and tribute to the dynamic musician and movie star host some 600,000 visitors annually.
Recently, the colonial revival mansion, surrounding estate, and exhibits received a makeover as part of a $45 million dollar expansion.
As with most exhibits, the best times to visit are in the early morning or early evening. By noon lines to the entrance are rather long so get there by 9:00 am when the doors open.
Bring your kids. The Graceland home tour features individual iPads for guests and children get their very own with fun games and features just for them. Besides that, there are pop-up performances in the “streets” of the entertainment complex and there’s even a room with carnival type games for kids.
Allow three to four hours for the tour. Touring Graceland should take from one to two hours depending how much of the details you want to read. Take advantage of the iPad, narrated by John Stamos, which features plenty of facts and behind the scenes trivia, you won’t see elsewhere along with additional multimedia.
After you take the bus across the street, visit exhibits such as Elvis’s vast car collection, his superb wardrobe, film career with interesting facts, and several other exhibits.
Pay the extra five dollars to walk through one of Elvis’s personal planes.
Dine at Graceland. There are two restaurants on site at Graceland’s entertainment complex. Vernon’s Diner has Memphis barbecue and other Memphis favorites like BBQ Spaghetti.
Gladys’ Diner offers burgers, pizza, and of course, Elvis’ favorite – peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
Stay near Graceland. Part of the massive expansion of Graceland entertainment complex was the addition of The Guest House at Graceland. The luxury hotel features 450 rooms and even a 464 seat theater for live performances.
Entrance to Graceland and the entertainment complex starts at $57.50 per person. Children 7 – 12 are $27 and children 6 and under are free. Beat the crowds by visiting before the busy summer season.
