WASHINGTON, May 19, 2014 – This season of Dancing With The Stars has been about who the dancers could be, not who we, the watchers and fans, think they are. And it was a growth experience for all.
A reality competition show a growth experience? You bet.
Dancing With The Stars competitor Rumer Willis is why we watch, and love the performance based show. Daughter of Hollywood royalty Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, she may have had privileges not everyone has but we learned it was not a life of daily roses and confidence.
She has had her detractors, bullies and fools. She has experienced the ups and downs of life.
“I was so scared my whole life to try anything or to fail,” Willis, 26, said in her pre-performance interview. “[Val] didn’t really ever let me. And I’ve never really had anybody that’s believed in me like that.”
Rumer Willis allows us all to say, she is sort of like me and look at what she had done! There is also the side story of her pro, Val Chmervsky, who in eight seasons of strong dance performances, has never won. It may be that it took the often touted as “fierce” Willis to bring out the best in the dark, curmudgeonly Russian.
And while Willis tamed the Bear, she brought her legenday tough guy dad (who I can personally say is a very kind, gentle and polite individual) to tears.
But then what dad wouldn’t cry after seeing his “little girl” dance so beautifully and confidently.
Also dancing tonight are Riker Lynch with pro-partner Allison who reprised their Pirates of the Carribean inspired dance.
At the beginning there was a bit of sideways glances at the mop-haired, boy band fronting Lynch who is a cousin to DWTS veterans Julianne and Derek Hough. Interesting to note is that it is pro Allison’s second season and to be propelled to the finals is quite an accomplishment for her.
But we all learned, including Riker, that the boy can dance.
And American hero Noah Galloway, who has taught us all that yes, you can. Galloway lost the limbs on his left side as a result of an explosive device in Afghanistan.
With a non-bending left knee, how could he possibly dance? With a super strong, physically and creatively, partner in Sharna Burgess he not only made us forget that he was not as able bodied as some as we marveled at how able a dancer Galloway is.
Tonight we have our Final Fan Chat for this Season of Dancing With The Stars. The prize is the golden 10th Anniversary Mirror Ball pictured with our DWTS correspondent Gayle Falkenthal. Making this chat even more special, columnist Gayle Falkenthal was in the DWTS ballroom last night and she will be bringing us some inside views from the floor and behind the scene.
Communities Digital News will host its final Dancing With The Stars Fan Chat. Don’t be late to the ballroom, as it is only a one hour show this week starting at 8pm eastern.
