SAN DIEGO, November 9, 2014 – In just two weeks there will be a brand new Mirror Ball Trophy winner as the champion of “Dancing With The Stars” Season 19. Hard to believe.

The quarterfinals will feature wall to wall dancing with two full routines for each couple, including one of the best innovations on the series, the Trio dances. Each couple gets to add one professional to their routine. It can be either an eliminated pro or a member of the DWTS troupe.

Count me as a skeptic when Trios were first introduced who quickly converted into a big fan. The stars always seem to benefit from working with two pros. Perhaps two heads and two pair of twinkle toes are better than one. The routines never disappoint. See photos from some of our favorite Trio routines over the past few seasons below.

The best Trio routine across all seasons is the Paso Doble trio performed by Melissa Rycroft, Tony Dovoloni and Henry Byalikov in Season 15. Melissa and Tony went on to win this season. See the entire routine here:

There is some strategy in picking the right Trio partner. The second pro needs to match somewhat in height to the original pro. There are some obvious close working relationships among the pros. Derek Hough and Mark Ballas often work together, but they can’t this time since both are still in the competition with their partners. Tony Dovoloni is a favorite pro choice as he is among the taller men in the competition. The “secret weapon” pro seems to be Henry Byalikov, who shows up often in the top Trio routines. Who’s got him this time? Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev. Good start to their Paso Doble Trio.

Each couple also dances a standard ballroom competitive routine on their own in addition to the Trios. It’s a great week to watch the top six couples perform. Expect the judges to be especially tough. The also-ran performers are gone. All of the couples remaining have something to offer.

In the show’s never ending quest to engage with fans via social media, the individual routine is being called “America’s Choice. Fans were asked for input via Faceook, Instagram and Twitter on wardrobe, set design and visual effects for the individual routines. Were you motivated enough to weigh in? Nope, I wasn’t either. I trust the creative DWTS professionals who work with the dancers and stars every week to work their magic for us.

Karina Smirnoff was in the trio dance with Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd, not Kym Johnson. Check your sources before you write articles like this lol.
