Battle of the sexes in a new ‘Dancing With The Stars’ theme week

The competition heats up with the first team dances; it's the women against the men. Every elimination really hurts from here to the finale.

SAN DIEGO, April 24, 2017 – Producers have come up with a new theme for fans on ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ Love it or hate it, it isn’t easy after 24 seasons to find something new and different.

We were convinced themes like “Trios Week” would crash and burn, but the Trios have turned out some of the best routines each season. Let’s see what this debut brings.

The eight remaining competitors will dance to songs from some of the most popular boy bands and girl groups in music history for their individual routines. With four men and four women remaining, they’ll team up against each other. Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter joins Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough as a guest judge.

This week also marks the return of Maks Chmerkovskiy to dance with partner Heather Morris. Chmerkovskiy suffered a calf injury, and troupe member Alan Bersten has been filling in. Producers, please make Alan a pro competitor with his own partner next season – he deserves it. Whether this was by design or coincidence, Maks will ease back in performing a Rumba with Heather.

Each couple will perform a samba, rumba, tango, paso doblé, salsa, Argentine tango or jive.

At the end of the night, based on scores and votes from last Monday, one more couple will be eliminated. It’s not looking good for The Bachelor, Nick Viall. Shockingly, Rashad Jennings will also need fan votes to help him avoid elimination this week.
