WASHINGTON, July 8, 2015 — Do you live with the enemy? Does your spouse have different political views from yours? Do your neighbors, by virtue of their lifestyle, repudiate all you hold dear?
Lifetime has created an over-the-edge, push-your-buttons television show called “Living with the Enemy” that attempts to take on this issue. It will premiere Thursday, July 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
“Living with the Enemy” (#LWTE) is not the first show to stir the lifestyle pot in order to brew some lively controversy. Similar shows highlighting totally outrageous, contradictory views on lifestyles have found success in Australia and Great Britain.
Families on this new show who are holding opposing values will live in each other’s homes. The objective is to see whether they can change each other’s views and shake their “enemies'” beliefs, beliefs that currently divide public opinion across the U.S. Various political and religious contradictions and beliefs will be explored in each one-hour episode.
The premiere episode of LWTE puts traditional values to the test. The families on each episode have never met. They must defend their opinions and beliefs.
As a black, Republican supporter of traditional marriage, I was featured in the episode, “Marriage: Same-Sex vs. Traditional.” I spent four days in my “enemies'” home, attempting to provide them with information and possibly sway their opinion with regard to the show’s designated subject.
When forced to live and work with my “enemy,” my traditional values are put to the test, and what you, the viewer, will learn about traditional values versus the same-sex argument will shock you.
Let me be clear: my co-stars on this episode are not my enemies. They have a different point of view from mine, and learning about their position on a currently hot issue while sharing mine is an interesting experiment. I hope you will enjoy watching.
The Same-Sex vs. Traditional Marriage episode is just one topic the show addresses, however. Other episodes cover:
- Parenting: Helicopter vs. Free Spirited
- Body Consciousness: Big vs. Skinny
- Marriage: Same-Sex vs. Traditional, featuring-Shirley Husar
- Animal Rights: Hunter vs. Vegan
- Pornography: Porn Star vs. Anti-Porn Advocate
- Monogamy: Anti-Polygamy vs. Multiple Wives
“Living with the Enemy” is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Executive producers are Travis Shakespeare, Patrick Costello, Alex Weresow and Jane Tranter and Lifetime’s Eli Lehrer, Mary Donahue and Paul Hardy.
The summer series features six, hour-long episodes of “Living with the Enemy” that will hopefully have you, your family and friends talking all summer long.
