Of course Russia has nothing to gain if Kiev disarms the recently formed militias. Russia is simply from the bottom of their heart pleading with the Ukrainian government to take back control of their people, to bring them back under thumb, and to do away with all of those nasty armed citizens.
In any event, the market didn’t like this either, so between Obamanation and the series of big put transactions, the market got pummeled
WASHINGTON, March 26, 2014 — Kiev either does not understand the gravity of the situation they are in or they are unable to cope with or address it. Yesterday, CNN ran a report detailing the internal turmoil currently surging through the new government in the Ukrainian capital, while also detailing how woefully unprepared they seem ...
Ukraine should not be tying the hands of their people behind their back. Yes acceptance into the EU is important, yes Kiev needs to be on good terms with the West. But the EU, and the West need to understand that Ukraine is in a tenuous situation.
The Ukrainian government has already called up the reserve forces. They seem to be teetering on the idea of declaring that Russia leaves Ukrainian territory or there will be war.
ladimir Putin and the Russian Federation have invaded the territory of a sovereign nation, seemingly at the behest of what they consider the lawful leader, and the ethnic Russian people of Crimea. They cite the lawlessness, and the instability which has resulted from the recent removal of the old government and its subsequent replacement with the new as reasons for his incursion, despite evidence existing of such lawlessness.
The reason we made no threats, is because we have no means to carry them out. Russia takes Crimea, and threatens to take Ukraine using the very tactics that our national security advisers have stated are obsolete.
The last few days has seen Russia move from the somewhat benevolent interlopers, seeking to protect ethnic Russian Ukrainians from a lawless government, to the enforcer of tyrants, the arm of the strong against the weak, the hammer of the government against the anvil of the people.
President Obama has been outplayed once again by the former spymaster who has had his number since before he even took office.
But if things keep spiraling out of control in Ukraine then it will mean civil war.
It is all speculation of course, it can’t be Russia or former Ukrainian government forces right? Ukraine has strict gun control policies and one must have cause in order to obtain a license, so if it is not Russian authorities and it is not former Ukrainian government troops with automatic weapons, fatigues, and communication equipment who is it?
Essentially, there are four factors which bear watching in this situation. The Opposition (new) Parliament and how they will proceed with unifying the country. Crimea, the course they decide to take will have far reaching implications. Yanukovych, he could throw this entire situation into an uproar if he vows to fight to the end. And Russia, simply put much of this hinges on Russia.
The down and dirty of it is that the United States has lost an incredible amount of credibility from the Syrian debacle, and the Ukrainian situation does not seem to be our deliverance either.
Fighting along clearly divided geographical lines with equal or somewhat equal international support could lead to a stalemate in any combat that would arise.
