WASHINGTON, July 25, 2016 – Donald Trump gave an acceptance speech when he was selected as the Republican candidate for president that pointed out the troubles in the U.S. and what could happen if the current course is not changed.
The Democrats called Trump a fearmonger, saying that the country is not nearly as bad off as Trump suggests. The Democrats say they will offer optimism, since the country is really in very good condition, instead of Trump’s gloom and doom.
According to President Obama, the economy is in very good condition. He cites a number of statistics that show the economy has grown for almost seven years. Employment has increased for 76 consecutive months and the economy is much stronger than any other economy on earth.
The reality, the Trump points out, is that this is the worst recovery from a recession since the great depression. In fact. President Obama will be the first president in recorded history to serve a term in office without having economic growth of at least 3 percent in any year.
While Obama has created millions of jobs, many are low-paying, and too many are part-time mainly because companies want to avoid the expense of health insurance for all employees who work more than 30 hours per week.
Obama’s Affordable Care Act requires that employers pay health insurance for any employee working at least 30 hours per week. This has resulted in the large number of part-time employees.
While it is true our economy is performing better than any other country’s, the reality is that the rest of the world is doing poorly, not that we are doing well. An analogy might be to find 10 people starving to death. Nine eventually die. The 10th is about to die, but isn’t it true that she is doing better than the others? Yes, but nonetheless still she is dying.
Trump recognized that there has been an increase in violent crime, especially in cities, that are, incidentally, controlled almost exclusively by Democrats. Obama responded by saying that the crime rates are much lower today than they were when Ronald Reagan was president. That is true, but the crime rate decreased significantly in the 1990s and the 2000s.
Trump said, “Decades of progress made in bringing down crime are now being reversed by this administration’s rollback of criminal enforcement. Homicides last year increased by 17 percent in America’s 50 largest cities. That’s the largest increase in 25 years.”
He continued, “In our nation’s capital, killings have risen by 50 percent. They are up nearly 60 percent in nearby Baltimore. In the president’s hometown of Chicago, more than 2,000 have been the victims of shootings this year alone. And almost 4,000 have been killed in the Chicago area since he took office. The number of police officers killed in the line of duty has risen by almost 50 percent compared to this point last year.”
The president called this “fearmongering.” A rational person would call this a dangerous and upsetting trend that must be reversed.
Obama said that Trump claimed he would “eliminate crime.” What Trump said was that he would “restore law and order.”
The U.S. is a nation of laws. Without laws, chaos would result. Yet Obama allows cities to call themselves sanctuary cities, meaning that any illegal immigrant will not be handed over to the immigration department to be deported, even if the illegal individual is a convicted felon.
The president refuses to enforce immigration laws. While we all understand that the illegal immigration problem is difficult, especially for people who have lived illegally in the U.S. for 10 years or more, the solution is not to ignore the law.
The Democrats continue to paint a rosy picture of the economy and national security. They continue to focus on curing perceived social injustices like the minimum wage, college debt and income inequality instead of making economic growth the primary priority. Growth would solve all of the economic problems.
The Obama/Clinton foreign policy has failed in every country. including Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Yemen and Ukraine. ISIS is not a JV team but an international terrorist organization whose influence is spreading even if the land they control in shrinking.
It’s time for Democrats to take off the rose-colored glasses and look at what’s really happening. In November the American voters are probably going to say just that.
