WASHINGTON. Somehow it’s appropriate that tomorrow, Thursday, is Turkey Day. After all, as far as the US stock market is concerned, it’s pretty much been Turkey Day every day since just after Labor Day. With stocks attempting to book some green ink Wednesday before Thanksgiving, maybe we’ll all have something to give thanks for by today’s closing bell. At any rate, after we post a few remarks here, we’ll provide you with our annual, up-to-date listing of 2018 Thanksgiving Holiday trading hours for US markets.
Rampaging “Democratic-Socialists” aside, we still should very much give thanks that our republic has mostly survived intact in 2018, CNN commentators notwithstanding. So let’s give thanks for that. And let’s give at least provisional thanks for a market that seems to want to end today on a positive note.
Meanwhile, if you’re a trader or investor, we all have some record-keeping and housekeeping duties to keep track of with regard to our portfolios. That’s particularly true when it comes to trade dates, settlement dates and market closures during our major year-end holidays.
So, as we do every holiday, here’s a list of opening, closing and settlement details you’ll need to be aware of, particularly if you need to put money into or pull money out of your accounts to fund your Black Friday and Cyber Monday misadventures.
And, oh, yes… Here’s wishing you and your family and friends a happy, blessed and safe holiday.
PS: Do try to keep this holiday even safer by informing your dinner guests they’ll all have a much happier Happy Meal Thursday if they (and you) agree to shelve all topics political for one blessed day of this year. We promise to try to do this ourselves.
See you after the weekend. Enjoy!
