Sarah Palin lambasts Carrier deal

WASHINGTON, December 04, 2016 – Sarah Palin, a public supporter of the President-elect, lashed out against Donald Trump’s recent deal with Carrier to keep a plant in Indiana and nearly 1,000 jobs for US workers.

The former Alaska governor wrote an op-ed piece for Young Conservatives called the recent deal ‘crony capitalism.’ Palin wrote, “When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent.”

Governor Palin warned that companies could now essentially blackmail the government with threats of moving to Mexico to secure their own concessions from the government.

“Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail,” she wrote

Carrier had planned to move a factory in Indiana to Mexico, taking 1,400 jobs with them. But Trump stepped in and granted United Technologies/Carrier $7 million in financial incentives over a decade so Carrier would keep 1,000 jobs in Indiana. Pundits believe that Carrier agreed to Trump’s demands because 10% of their business comes from government contracts.

Palin compared the deal to incentives the White House gave Solyndra, which was blasted by conservatives across the country.

Palin is the latest conservative to speak out against the deal. The Wall Street Journal called Trump’s Carrier deal an “arm-twisting,” saying it will lead to a loss of jobs. The Washington Examiner also called out Trump’s deal calling it “bad policy.”

Palin criticism comes as rumors have begun circulating that she could possibly become the next head of the Veterans Administration.

While Palin is critical of the deal, she also said we must have faith that Trump team knows what they are doing.
