CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 22, 2015 – Nonie Darwish, a converted Egyptian Muslim who is president of “Former Muslims United,” has written a column explaining the truth about so-called “moderate Muslims.”
“The confusion in the West about moderate vs. radical Islam is not by accident, but by design. Moderate Muslims are confused people and have been violently and harshly trained over centuries to never think for themselves. Moderate Muslims are suffering from a pathology that allows them to believe in two opposite ideas at the same time and feel perfectly comfortable with them. In their minds, there is no contradiction at all when they say: ‘Islam is a religion of peace,’ and they have no problem with commandments in the Quran to kill and terrorize the infidels.”
True Muslims are incapable of being moderate if they follow the faith as taught by the Prophet Muhammad. The fact that the majority of Muslims do not kill, maim and brutalize non-Muslims does not mean they are moderate. In fact, true Muslims regard such “good” Muslims as bad Muslims who are not committed to the true meaning of Islam. They are considered apostates.
As Darwish points out, “What does he (Obama) mean by defending Islam as moderate and peaceful? If they are only 0.1 percent of the Muslim population, how come the brutal Islamic legal system is unable to round the jihadists up and behead them in the infamous public squares of Saudi Arabia? How come moderate Muslims, the 99.9 percent, are unable to explain away their passivity with jihadists while those jihadists are brutalizing, honor killing and terrorizing apostates?”
Darwish notes that the president incorrectly claims the United States and the West have the support of a group of Muslim governments to fight ISIS. “But,” she writes, “we see no Muslim armies moving to Syria … the real reason why Muslim leaders are not waging war on ISIS is because at least half of the Muslim army will defect and join ISIS.”
As recently as last Sunday, while en route to another Christmas vacation in Hawaii that will cost American taxpayers, Obama said that ISIS is nothing more than a bit player in a much larger global drama. In typical Obama-speak, the president threw out another unlikely reason why there is nothing to fear from ISIS and international jihad.
In fact, it is all a diversion. It is a distraction that has become part of Islam’s playbook. Yet the West falls for it every time.
Consider the Crusades. Darwish explains,
“The war against ISIS is obviously a defensive one, but somehow Islamic history will eventually portray it as an invasion by the West, the same way Muslims today have twisted the mission of the Crusades to portray them as an aggression, when in fact they were a reaction to Islamic terrorism at the time.
“The number of the criminal population in most societies, Western and non-Western, is certainly more than 0.1 percent, and most societies, especially in the West, are perfectly capable of controlling their criminal population and are capable in creating law and order and safety and security for their own citizens.”
Darwish is referring to the common claim that only 0.1 percent of the Muslim population comprises the world of jihad.
Darwish reminds us, “Muslim citizens keep electing Islamist groups such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood to power. The majority of the commandments of Islamic holy books command Muslims to kill, terrorize, humiliate and subjugate non-Muslims. Over 64 percent of the Quran is obsessed with non-members of the religion.”
Darwish adds, “the so-called ‘moderate’ Muslims in the West, keep accusing jihadists of being un-Islamic, and insist, ‘not in the name of my religion,’ or ‘they do not speak for Islam.’ But what they fail to tell America is that many of the so-called Muslim reformers in America are considered apostates throughout the Muslim world.”
The ultimate goal of Islamic jihad is to gain control of the world in the name of Islam. There may be various ways to accomplish those ends, but with no separation of church and state, Islam is a way of life rather than a religion.
As such, a believer cannot be “moderate” and true to the basic tenets of Islam.
