A most unholy Obama Thursday

A most unholy Obama Thursday

LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2011— Yesterday was Holy Thursday.

May a peaceful Good Friday be upon Christians everywhere.

While Jews were celebrating Passover and Christians preparing for Easter, wealthy liberals on the West side of Los Angeles were busy bowing down to diety-in-chief, Barack Obama.

Mr. Obama arrived in L.A. at 3:00pm just as rush hour blossoms, hitting a series of fund raisers and re-election events that are reported to have netted more than $4,000,000.00. In order to avoid gridlock he helicoptered into the west side areas of Brentwood, Culver City and Beverly Hills.

It did not work. Busy at work on his reelection, instead of unemployment, the west side of L.A. came to a halt as he motorcaded to appearances at the Federal Building, the Gen44 fundraiser at Sony finishing his jaunt dining at the A-List Tavern Restaurant in Brentwood where his followers like Tom Hanks, Will Ferrel and George Clooney each paid $35,800 in order to worship himself.

For many in Los Angeles, Mr. Obama’s visit was a most “Unholy Thursday,” as they were unable to get home, much less attend religious services. St. Agustine Church sits squarely in the midst of the closed streets and no parking zones being prepared for the president’s smooth, uninterrupted commute.

Now, Mr. Obama says he is a Christian and I believe him. But didn’t his secretary let him know this was Christendom’s most holy of weeks and that people would want to get to church?

Coming to Los Angeles on one of the holiest days of the religious Christian calendar and shutting down huge parts of the city during rush hour traffic so that he could attend fundraisers for a campaign that is over 18 months away shows an abhorrent lack of recognition for “us.”

Those trying to attend Holy Thursday services at their churches, in particular St. Augustine’s, could not possibly get there. People trying to pay homage to God, and God, had to take a back seat because of one man.

I know this is true, regardless of what the White House mouths might say.

I lived where presidential gridlock ensued for hours. An innocent trip to get some lunch turned into a fiasco lasting over an hour as all of the streets were blocked off; getting home was virtually impossible.

Then leaving the house for an appointment that could not be missed proved painful, as a two hour trip took four hours. The first two spent trying to leave Los Angeles.

Yet my real frustration is for the Christians trying to attend Holy Thursday services at their churches, only to not be able to get there. The people trying to pay homage to God, and God, had to take a back seat because of one man.

Mr. Obama loves to claim that everything he does is historic and unprecedented. Well his arrogance is precisely that. As for the billionaire sycophants supporting him, they are just as culpable. These are the people John Kerry referred to as the “heart and soul of America.”

But I beg to differ: the heart and soul of America are not people making twenty million dollars for appearing on a screen. The heart and soul of America are the people who work hard all day and want to get to Church for Holy Thursday services.

If Hollywood liberals want to stop being portrayed as self-indulgent spoiled brats, they need to consider using better judgment when deciding when, where, and how to spend their money. If Mr. Obama wants to be seen as somebody who cares even the slightest about ordinary people, he should not leave them stranded in traffic.

While he was raising millions of dollars solely for himself, workers had their cars idling. With gasoline at $4.20 a gallon in Los Angeles, every drop wasted adds to financial hardship. Additionally, idling is also bad for the environment, but Mr. Obama’s motorcade and the resulting standstill is exempt from environmental scrutiny. Not to mention the jet-fuel for Airforce One. Worshiping the environment takes a back seat to worshiping him.

Very late on Thursday night a drive home led to more panic as Mr. Obama settled in at a hotel on the very street where I live. He was three blocks away. And even though it was well past midnight, there was a chance my very street would be blocked off.

A man’s home is his castle however this night my own bed could have been off limits and while Mr. Obama rested on the most expensive sheets in existence, this ordinary fellow, just three blocks away finally reached his own simple mattress after working into the night.

As Holy Thursday turned to Good Friday, well wishes are again sent to the Jews and Christians celebrating their beautiful traditions. This Passover and Easter weekend, Mr. Obama may wish to consider lowering himself in his own mind to the level of mere mortal.

Or at least recognize how his actions affect others. Had he thought of others, he might have visited one of the most congested cities in America on a weekend, and not when the common people have their heads bowed in devotion to that which is grander than he.

Mr. Obama needs to learn humility. He needs to be more sensitive to those around him, even if they do not earn seven figures and trade carbon offsets. He needs to understand that for the great unwashed masses, the right to liberty and pursuit of happiness often comes in the form of a religious service.

His actions were selfish, classless, and even more sadly, typical.

I still wish the man a peaceful Easter, but his attitude toward his fellow men led to a most Unholy Thursday in Los Angeles. The next time he speaks about “change,” he should visit his church and look deeo inside himself.

Unlike many in Los Angeles during his visit, at least he will be able to get to the church.
