Game of Thrones and travel fans will travel to Kings Landing for a once in a life time experience that will combine the greatest fantasy, GOT, and present day reality.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 28, 2016 – If ever there was an ideal place to incorporate a setting for the popular HBO television series “Game of Thrones,” it would have to be Dubrovnik, Croatia. With it ancient city wall and medieval ambiance nestled by the sea, Dubrovnik IS truly King’s Landing.
Now in Season Six, Dubrovnik, with it red tiled roofs, has been home for King’s Landing since Season Two, and all you have to do is visit to know the reason.
Visit we will in May of 2017. With arrangements through Captivating Croatia, a North Carolina based tour company specializing in travel to their native country, tentative dates for this culinary “Game of Thrones tour” are from May 14 through May 21 of next year.
As an added treat, the tour leaders will also take guests to some of the favorite restaurants where the cast members like to eat after a long day of filming.
Captivating Croatia specializes in the wine and cuisine of the region with an eye on bringing the culture of the country alive.
The pace is casual, with scheduled tours beginning around 10 in the morning so travelers can savor the morning air and enjoy breakfast without gulping down their coffee and croissants while they wonder if the luggage they left outside the door was picked up.
Accommodations are in four star or better hotels or in a private villa, depending upon the number of participants. All transportation and entrance fees are included along with all breakfasts, 4 lunches and 3 dinners.

Air is not included in the package; however, transfers from and to the airport are part of the program. The cost of the ground package is $1,650 per person, double occupancy. Travel dates are May 14 through 21, 2017; at this writing Travelocity.com shows airfare from $1,000-$1,300.
A single supplement is available for $400. A deposit of $300 is due by Dec. 2 to reserve space, which is limited to 14 travelers.
Using the “cruise concept” of travel, which has become a popular trend in recent years, Captivating Croatia does not move participants from one hotel to another, which wastes time and energy.
Each tour utilizes no more than two hotel properties, depending upon the itinerary.
Each travel program is customized in a way that allows travelers to mix and to mingle with locals by offering access to interesting people who bring the destination to life. In other words, Captivating Croatia rejects the concept of “cookie cutter travel” where you have a five-minute photo op before moving on to the next place on the itinerary.
For the “Game of Thrones program,” one of the escorts will be a long-time still photographer and video producer from the region who will not only describe the locations but also provide tips and information about getting the best possible pictures.
In and of itself Dubrovnik is a magical place. Add in the atmosphere as one of the sites where “Game of Thrones” comes to life, and the city becomes even more captivating.
Since its inception, the series has used locations in four other countries and two continents. Malta took the place of Dubrovnik in Season One, but because King’s Landing requires a seaside setting, Croatia has been home to the GOT crew for the past five seasons.
Morocco, Iceland and Northern Ireland are also included in the filming locations.
An interesting sidebar concerns the limestone archway in Malta, one of the country’s most spectacular natural monuments. “The Azure Window” was part of the background for Daenerys’ wedding to Khal Drogo in Season One.
When Maltese officials complained that the shoot damaged the protected habitat of the site, GOT packed its bags and moved to Dubrovnik.
Wise choice for “Game of Thrones” and for travelers who wish to see what all the GOT fuss is about.
