We still need to know why four Americans were left to die in Benghazi?

WASHINGTON, DC, June 17, 2014 — Hillary Clinton appeared on CNN in a Town Hall style meeting, hosted at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. CNN’s Christina Amanpour was the moderator.

In the wake of the arrest of Ahmed Abu Khattala there is still one question liberals deliberately refuse to ask.

Why were four innocents Americans left to die?

What we all already know is that they were murdered on September 11, 2012 when the American Consulate in Libya was overrun. One day later the Libyan Prime Minister offered the American government evidence that radical Islamists launched the attacks. Al-Qaeda affiliate Ansar al-Sharia were the perpetrators. Despite this knowledge, the Obama administration from the President on down blamed an anti-Muslim video. The film-maker remains imprisoned on spurious charges. An attempt to try and save the victims was called off by a “stand down” order.

Despite charges from liberals that the Benghazi investigation was a “partisan witch hunt,” it was the administration and its allies who politicized the tragedy by attacking those seeking the truth.

Where was President Obama while Americans were being killed? Was he asleep, literally and figuratively? Who pushed the video narrative? Who edited White House talking points to eliminate references to radical Islam? Who gave Lt. Colonel Gibson the stand down order?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton created a firestorm during a congressional oversight hearing when she screamed “What difference at this point does it make?” She claimed that what mattered was making sure something like this never happens again. Her clever sleight of hand does not alter the fact that figuring out why terrorist attacks happen is the exact key to preventing repeat occurrences.

While we do not know who officially gave the stand down order, the order itself is not disputed. We know that Americans were left to die because somebody in our own government ordered it. Only the President can give such an order. So either Obama gave the order, or somebody in his administration exceeded their authority.

Reasonable people can conclude is that Obama did not wake up one day and just decide to get Americans killed.

So why would his administration leave them to die?

To understand this is to understand everything that is Barack Obama.

Obama came into office as the “anti-Bush.” Everything President George W. Bush did was wrong, and Obama was going to right those wrongs. If 43 said “day,” then 44 declared nightfall.

On terrorism, the men had diametrically opposing approaches. Bush declared a Global War on Terror, supported coercive interrogation methods, called out radical Islam by name, held terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, and led forcible regime change in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama felt that Bush represented a bullying America that needed to be more humble. He engaged in dialogue and outreach with everyone from Iran to Syria. A doctrinaire leftist, he was committed to treating terrorism as a law enforcement matter for civilian prisons and courts. This would show the world the best of American values.

Obama’s intentions were noble. The results of his approach have been disastrous. On the issue of radical Islam, the evidence is in. Bush is right and Obama is wrong. Both men are human, and humans can be wrong. Yet what separates Obama from better leaders is his inability and stubborn refusal to admit when he is wrong. An honest analyst follows data wherever it leads. Obama starts with predetermined conclusions and tries to force the data to conform.

The result is that whenever radical Islam gains a victory, Obama simply denies radical Islam’s role. He labeled the Fort Hood shooting “workplace violence.” He wanted Khalid Sheik Mohammed tried in a civilian New York court, backing down only after a public outcry. He treated Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as criminals rather than terrorists. Dzhokhar was given Miranda rights, which he used to his full advantage. His civilian trial is pending.

Obama defenders will note his aggressive use of predator drones and secret kill list. Conservatives rightly praise him for this, but that does not tell the entire story. Obama never turned from Bambi to Rambo. He has to kill the bad guys because if they are captured alive, the very policies he champions that critics question return to the spotlight.

Obama deeply believes his narrative is right and Bush’s narrative is wrong. Obama’s deepest convictions are contradicted by the evidence. The Obama approach does not save lives. It gets more people killed.

For Obama (and many of his supporters) to admit he is wrong about anything, much less something as serious as life and death, would be a shock to his system. He has to be right at all costs.

Letting Americans die beats admitting Bush is right.

That is why this entire Benghazi mess was covered up. Barack Obama will not allow anything to get in the way of his narrative that “al-Qaeda is on the run.”

What could get in the way? Only the evidence and the truth.

He has no choice but to double and triple down on losing hands and declare them winners as he deals from marked decks. Now his whole house of cards is collapsing.

The Obama approach to terrorism gets Americans murdered.

That is why, despite Madame Secretary Hillary doth protesting way too much, it makes all the difference in the world.

If the goal is to prevent these attacks in the future, then the man who ran on “change” must completely change his beliefs. Through clenched teeth, he will have to confront what many others already know.

Radical Islam is the problem, the Global War on Terror is the solution, and  George W. Bush was and is still right.
