OKLAHOMA CITY, July 25, 2013 ―The Republican Party is scrambling to find ways to increase the number of Hispanic voters, who often share the same conservative values of faith and family, that also identify as Republican.
Republicans also know, based on the lessons of 2012, that Hispanic voters could be a deciding factor in the elections.
Both Marco Rubio Ted Cruz come from Cuban backgrounds, are conservative Republicans and hail from states with a large Hispanic population.
If either Cruz or Rubio go hard on immigration then the Hispanic voters will not have an interest in electing either candidate. Yet if either Senator goes light on immigration they could lose their TEA Party support and core Republican Party support.
Senator Cruz does not politicize his thoughts and is blunt about his views. Young Hispanics may view Senator Ted Cruz as a hardnosed person with no compassion for undocumented Hispanics, especially when it comes to the DREAM Act.
Senator Cruz’s views on immigration counter those of liberal Hispanic voters’ on immigration. Senator Cruz is not friendly to the immigration reform issue and supports the stance of the TEA Party on the issue.
Senator Marco Rubio, on the other hand, has been attempting to gently persuading Hispanic voters by pushing a comprehensive immigration bill through the Senate in hopes it will fix the immigration problems the U.S. is facing.
This is a different Senator Rubio than the public saw back in 2010 when he was a TEA Party darling that took a hard stance on immigration.
While each Senator offers a different perspective on immigration one thing is for certain: Both Senator Rubio and Senator Cruz command a growing Hispanic voting bloc that will need to be grabbed if the Republican Party can have any hope in the 2016 Presidential election and beyond.Click here for reuse options!
