LOS ANGELES, July 21, 2014 — The weekend of July 18-20 saw over 300 protests nationwide, at consulates, the U.N., and freeway overpasses.

From New York City and Philadelphia to Florida and Alabama, from Oklahoma and Nebraska to Oregon, Los Angeles, Central California, and Arizona, American citizens rallied around the country against the Obama administration’s poor handling of the crisis at the southern border, and their push to house and ultimately “amnestize” the illegal immigrants using taxpayer dollars.

The American Legal Immigration Political Action Committee (ALIPAC), Overpasses for America, and Make Them Listen coordinated these mass efforts. The organizers say the Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to securing the border and has helped fuel the exodus of over 57,000 — and counting — illegals, mostly from Central American countries, who have flooded the southern border. The Los Angeles Times estimates that the number could reach 90,000 by the end of the year.

Some of the protests focused on Americans who have been murdered by illegal immigrants. In 2008, 17-year-old Jamiel Shaw II was gunned down by an illegal immigrant gang member in front of his home. Shaw’s family helped mount two overpass protests that were visited by the Los Angeles Police Department in person, and in a helicopter flyover. The Shaw family documented the encounter on Jamiel Shaw’s Blog.

I reminded the Officers about the Execution of 17 years young Jamiel Shaw II, by an illegal alien gangbanger negligently released from jail on March 1, 2008 & [sic] he Executed Jamiel the very next day on March 2, 2008.

I also reminded the Officers about the thousands of illegal aliens Obama released from jail back into our communities and the current Border Surge from the illegals entering the Country.

The Shaw family plans to mount overpass protests each Friday to continue to raise awareness about the dangers inherent in an unsecured border and loose immigration policies.

The ALIPAC site has posted pictures of protests around the country. Two protesters in Lenore, N.C., held signs honoring Joey Storie: “Father of 3 murdered by a drunk illegal immigrant Oct. 5, 2011; No Justice Served! Luis Alberto Rodriguez fled twice!”

The dangers of haphazard immigration processing are highlighted by the arrest in Texas of Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas for the alleged murder of a woman and kidnapping of children.

Breitbart News reports that, “The alleged crimes occurred after the man was released. … [Monterroso-Navas] entered the U.S. illegally with children and turned himself in to U.S. Border Patrol agents. He was processed and released, as are all illegal immigrants who come as unaccompanied minors or incomplete family units from Central America.”

Monterroso-Navas was given a “Notice to Appear,” and the alleged crimes apparently occurred after his release into the general population.

Conservative author and radio host Dana Loesch, who is assisting Glenn Beck’s humanitarian efforts at the Southern border tweeted this chilling observation, heard during a border patrol briefing:

There are children legitimately fleeing violence, but among them are children being used as cover for international terrorists seeking to enter the country to cause us harm. Between this, and the MS13 gang members infiltrating the detention centers to recruit, we have a serious problem on our hands. Unfortunately, the Obama administration is too obtuse to recognize the weight and impact of this open border chaos.

Save for on Mashable and some state and local outlets, the July 18-20 protests were either not mentioned in the news or were given minimal focus. Many of the reports focused either on the small number of protesters, the counter protests by pro-amnesty organizations, the controversies surrounding the founders of the groups spearheading the anti-illegal immigration efforts, or the fact that the protesters were comprised of “fringe” or “Tea Party” groups.

Despite the mainstream media minimization, the people’s outrage and concern is justified. Another Breitbart report showed that funding for the government’s illegal immigrant transportation efforts is reaching $100 million and debunks the supposed surprise over the border crisis by the Obama Administration.

In a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) request posted online in January, DHS asks for “escort services for unaccompanied alien children”. Some reports claim that 50 percent of foreign minors are taken to interior U.S. cities via commercial planes. The others are transported via local ground transport and ICE charter aircraft.

On Friday, Jerry Markon of the Washington Post penned a damning report stating that the Obama Administration was warned over a two-year period about this potential crisis, but chose not to act or prepare. Markon writes, “The former official said the agencies primarily in charge of border security, Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, were ‘ringing alarm bells’ within the administration. Meanwhile, top officials focused much of their attention on political battles, such as Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign and the push to win congressional support for a broad immigration overhaul, that would have been made more difficult with the addition of a high-profile border crisis.”

Just as with Benghazi, the Obama Administration considered it more important to distract and cover up the truth in order to secure Obama’s re-election than to actually address a real issue before it became an overwhelming crisis. In Benghazi, four Americans lost their lives; we can only imagine the potential fatalities if the border influx is not stopped and the borders properly secured.

While the VA scandal grows worse with veterans who fought for our freedoms dying while waiting for care, and American troops are receiving pink slips, we are spending millions to transport non-citizens across the country. The distrust, anger, and incredulity from the American public is more than warranted; these protests are a sign that our country’s citizens will not simply lie down and allow it to happen.

ALIPAC, Overpasses for America, and other organizations are planning a new round of targeted protests to take place on Saturday, August 2, in the states that have GOP primary elections on August 5-7. The Obama administration owns much of the blame for the current situation, but so do sitting representatives and senators in both parties. If nothing else, these new protests will cause people to consider the voting record of those they are choosing to represent them rather than mindlessly filling in a ballot.

Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has been a fierce critic of the Obama Administration’s handling of the border situation, announced today that he will activate up to 1,000 Guardsmen to the Rio Grande Valley to increase security at the border. A July 16 Pew Research Poll about the surge of Central American illegals shows that 56 percent of Americans disapprove of Obama’s handling of the crisis, while 53 percent think that the legal process for dealing with the illegal children should be accelerated, even if that means that some children who are eligible for asylum are deported.

Americans are rightfully upset, and many are letting this administration know they will not go away quietly or have their constitutional rights subverted by an overreaching government. Expect to see more protests spring up and the current ones grow. We can hope that more state governors like Perry will start to act for the good of American citizens. From the bumbling and inaction of the Obama Administration thus far, one can only surmise they are unwilling to do this.
