WASHINGTON, April 29, 2017 – “If you are anti-abortion, you are not a feminist! Or a bad one, to say the least!” cries today’s feminist. If an individual believes that abortion is immoral, he is disillusioned. If an individual disagrees with a progressive woman on the termination of a pregnancy, he is ignorant. If an individual is pro-life, he does not care about women. Men just do not understand.

But what if a woman holds to these beliefs?

Is she a bad feminist? Disillusioned? Ignorant? Misogynistic? If according to those on the left of the political divide, African Americans are incapable of being racist, then a woman surely cannot be sexist; and, if that is the case, why are women on college campuses undergoing verbal attacks, scorned, and abused for their strongly held beliefs regarding this women’s issue?

The answer: Because modern feminism is not about equality and edification of all women. It’s about the advancement of the leftist agenda hidden behind the guise of women’s rights. Modern feminism exploits women, and abortion hurts women.

The Elliot Institute for Social Science Research found that 90% of women suffer from reduced self-esteem following an abortion; 50% begin or increase alcohol and drug abuse; 60% report suicidal ideation; 28% attempt suicide; 20% experience PTSD. If these negative side effects are experienced by such a large percentage of women, why are those on the left so adamant about increasing access to this damaging procedure?

The answer: It does not exist.

The argument that a woman should control her own body is still voiced by those who don’t understand anatomy. Science has proven that the body of the fetus is an entirely different entity than the body of the mother. However, if science is to be disregarded for the sake of opinion, and if feminism is about the advancement of and increased regard for all women, then the opinion of a woman on this women’s issue should be respected.

But quite simply, modern feminism is not about the advancement and increased regard of all women. One of the goals of modern feminism is to make victims where victims did not previously exist.

Assigning someone “victim status” when no real oppression exists results in a dangerous lack of accountability, a tendency to blame others, and increased levels of partisanship and division. This goal of modern feminism results not in the equality of genders (that condition already exists), but in the proliferation of the leftist agenda.

The Democratic party thrives on the creation of victims, and modern feminism has been usurped by the party and transformed into an avenue through which Democrats can create more victims, and subsequently, more voters.

Feminism should be about uplifting women and their ideas based on their merit. Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court Justice, exemplifies this breed of feminism. Following her confirmation to the Court, O’Connor stated, “The power I exert on the court depends on the power of my arguments, not on my gender.” This refreshing take on the abilities of a woman is one that should find a welcome place in modern America.

Modern feminists, take note. O’Connor thinks freely, and is effectively the antonym of the modern feminist movement. Rather than ruling based on agenda and within party lines, O’Connor demonstrated to the world what true feminism should resemble. Oh, yeah—this free-thinking, groundbreaking woman was added to the Court by none other than Ronald Reagan.

As Greg Gutfeld, speaking for PragerU explains, the right is always right.
