WASHINGTON, February 25, 2015 — America’s left is beside itself over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled March 3 speech before a joint session of Congress.
Think Progress sides with Netenyahu’s political opponents in Israel who suggest, “it might be better for Netanyahu to address a closed-door session of Congress.”
The loons at the Daily Kos tell congressional Democrats that where House speaker John Boehner and Netanyahu are concerned, “you are dealing with a combination of backroom political thugs and gangsters.” They add that Democrats should follow the advice of the fictional Chicago police officer Jim Malone from the 1987 film The Untouchables:
The self-talkers at the Daily Kos previously accused Tea Party champion Sarah Palin of inspiring the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., with ads urging voters to throw out congressional Democrats that passed the President’s dictatorial health care monstrosity. The ad featured a map of the U.S. showing cross hairs over vulnerable Democratic House districts, urging voters not to “retreat” and, instead, to “RELOAD!”
“Palin enjoys using guns-and-ammo imagery to stoke the political climate and boost her outdoorsy image,” said the Daily Koss, “she resents having it backfire.”
Following its Palin advice, the Daily Koss walked-back its passionate anti-Netanyahu, anti-Boehner rhetoric before it inspired murderous violence against Jews and staunch Republican supporters of Israel. “In this case, what you pull is simple, and quite less violent: Democrats should simply not attend Netanyahu’s political act.”
The left’s Netanyahu boycott can be classified “less violent” for one reason: The actual violence is left to President Obama and the Democratic Party’s new ally-in-the-making: Iran.
As the president said, “The prime minister and I have a very real difference around Iran … It does not make sense to sour the [U.S.-Iran nuclear] negotiations a month or two before they’re about to be completed.”
The complete elimination of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure is not the president’s goal in talks with Iran. “The Obama administration has acknowledged that Iran will be allowed to maintain thousands of the centrifuge machines used to produce nuclear fuel as part of a final deal,” said the Wall Street Journal.
The Journal also noted that Obama administration officials admitted that the details of the impending deal with Iran are being withheld from the Israeli government.
However, Netanyahu said in a recent speech that he is aware of Obama’s plans. “Now I tell you that Israel … knows the details of the proposed [U.S.-Iran] agreement. I think this is a bad agreement that is dangerous for the state of Israel, and not just for it.”
The Obama left claims that Netanyahu is a greater danger than Iran, the modern world’s first rogue Islamic state, the one that held U.S. diplomatic personnel hostage for 444 days starting in 1979. He is more dangerous than Ismail Ascari, the Iranian who in 1983 drove an explosives-packed truck into the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon killing 241 Marines; or the Iran-backed Hezbollah bomber of the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait in 1983; or the men who bombed the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which killed 29 and wounded 242; or the AMIA Jewish community center bombers in the same city two years later, when the former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and defense minister, Ahmad Vahidi, was part of a terrorist team whose explosive device killed 85 and injured 300; or the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Hezbollah that killed 19 Americans and wounded 372; or the mass of Americans killed and wounded in the Iraq War by Iranian-supplied Improvised Explosive Devices.
This is the anti-American, Jew-hating government that Obama and his lunatic-fringe followers believe is worthy of trust.
“It is quite possible that by the time Obama leaves office, no other country on Earth will have gained quite so much as Iran,” writes David Rothkopf, CEO and editor of Foreign Policy magazine. If Obama’s “empowerment of Shiite Iran becomes a recruiting tool for groups like the Islamic State or al Qaeda, if Israel so distrusts U.S. diplomacy that it triggers conflict with Iran, if key U.S. relationships in the Gulf continue to deteriorate, if American disengagement … stimulates rather than contains the rise of new strongholds of terror, then this pivot to Iran is going to seem like a great blunder. And America is going to feel like its 44th president got played.”
Obama is hardly a dupe. In a 2011 speech delivered at the U.S. State Department, Obama said Israel should return to its pre-1967 borders; borders that only expanded, he forgets, after Arab assaults on the Jewish state.
At a White House photo-op, Netanyahu used the occasion to respond directly to the president’s proposal. “Peace based on illusions will crash eventually on the rocks of Middle East reality.”
Obama stared intently at Netanyahu, fuming.
Two controversies threaten to mar the thin veneer of the president’s cult status: the statement by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who said, “I do not believe that the president loves America”; and Netanyahu’s approaching address, which will prove to Congress and the American people that the president doesn’t have all that much love for the only functioning democracy in the Middle East, Israel.
As Giuliani observed, “He [Obama] doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up—through love of this country.”
Netanyahu and Giuliani are somewhat myopic in their analysis. That’s because Obama’s lack of “love” extends to the whole of Western Civilization. He is hell-bent on unraveling (“fundamentally transforming”) American institutions because he rejects the Enlightenment, Age-of-Reason ideals that informed the nation’s Founders, who prized individual liberty above the whims of petty, authoritarian ringleaders and their soulless, empty-headed thralls; or his insistence that Americans stop “over-inflating” terrorism’s perpetrators as “an existential threat to the United States or the world order.”
The left just can’t stop pandering. After all, pandering earned Obama two terms as president, which stuck us with totalitarian Obamacare. Pandering to Iran will stick the civilized world with an “existential threat” in the form of an exporter of state-sponsored terrorism capable of producing fissionable material to achieve critical mass and a sustained nuclear chain reaction.
But keep telling yourself Obama loves America and a stable, peaceful world.
