We beat the Nazis without a Department of Homeland Security; do we really need it to defeat the Islamic State?
WASHINGTON, February 10, 2015 — Blood was running down the arms of Dr. E.J. Cox, but he didn’t seem to mind. He had just broken a window in a coach car of the Pittsburgh Express with his fists and pulled women and children to safety from the half submerged train.
It was March 16, 1941, and the missing 44 rail spikes that caused the locomotive to jump its tracks, plunge down a 40-foot embankment, and splash into the frigid Ohio River, was believed to be the work of Nazi saboteurs.
Five people died and 110 were injured. The FBI never caught the culprits.
The FBI apprehended the German spies before they could do any damage.
The United States never lost its focus. To win its war against the Axis powers, we never allowed domestic terrorism to distract us from waging a relentless war on the enemy where he was strongest: “over there.”
Somehow, America defeated a fanatical Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan without employing the services of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said that unless Congress fully funds his department, he’ll have no choice but to furlough 30,000 agency bureaucrats. “This is not a situation to make light of. In these challenging times we need a fully funded Department of Homeland Security,” Johnson told CNN.
That could seriously affect Obama’s new DHS hotline — the one established for illegal aliens to call should they experience any negativity from U.S. immigration agents who take their jobs seriously.
Pathetic Republican leaders in Congress “could abandon their efforts to use the DHS funding bill as the vehicle to torpedo Obama’s immigration actions, and instead turn to the court system,” POLITICO reported.
For his part, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid warned Republicans, “Don’t jeopardize our national security … ISIS has said that they are coming our way.”
DHS Secretary Johnson told CNN that five individuals were recently arrested in the U.S. for “providing material support, allegedly, to ISIL.”
Then, without a hint of irony, he added, “The numbers [of terrorist cells] that we see are larger in European countries. And that’s one of the reasons why we’re concerned about travel to and from Europe, and making sure that we’ve got the appropriate security assurances from countries for which we do not require a visa.”
So, to summarize:
- DHS is supposed to enhance national security by protecting us from terrorism and terrorist cells.
- By the government’s own admission, America already has active Islamic State terror cells because, according to Johnson, individuals are coming into the U.S. “from countries for which we do not require a visa.”
- President Obama ordered DHS to establish a customer service hotline to enhance the positive experience of illegal immigrants taking advantage of the president’s executive amnesty by flooding across our open southern border — without a visa.
In direct contradiction of Reid and Johnson’s statements, Obama urged Americans to “maintain a proper perspective” and not allow the recent horrific acts committed by Islamic killers, like the wanton murder of Jewish shoppers at a Parisian market and the Islamic State’s burning of a prisoner of war in his cage, by “over-inflating their importance … and suggesting … they are an existential threat to the United States or the world order,” he told CNN.
Word meanings seem to be shifting. That’s because the Age of Obama is the culmination of the Age of George Orwell. In the parlance of today’s doublespeak, “security” means unsecured and open borders facilitated by a transnational, domestic paramilitary force.
That force was created by Congress on the pretext of securing the homeland against terrorist threats. It is now used to impose upon a free people the unilateral dictates of one man’s will to power; a head of state who emulates Big Brother on behalf of foreign invaders, “dreamers,” literally at the expense of the American people.
We defeated Hitler and Soviet communism without them; we can defeat radical Islam without the Department of Homeland Security.
It’s time Congress disband a government department that neither protects us nor the homeland.
