LOS ANGELES, May 14, 2014 — Walk away for two seconds and your pasta water has boiled over. There are many tricks, like placing a wooden spoon over the pot, using a bigger pot, and blowing on the pot when the bubbles get too big, but none are fail-safe.  The Spill Stopper by Kuhn Rikon promises to never let pasta and rice water boil over again.  Let’s see, shall we?

Spill Topper Test:

Step 1: Put water in a pot and bring it to a boil
Step 2: Pour the pasta into the pot
Step 3: Place the Spill Stopper on top of the pot
Step 4: Boil pasta for 11 minutes Step 5: Remove the Spill Stopper and Step 6: Strain the pasta

The pasta never came close to boiling over and it worked just as the instructions described.


First, the Spill Stopper is lightweight and can be stored easily.
Second, it prevents pasta water from boiling over perfectly.
Third, it’s easy to clean.
Fourth, it comes in many different sizes.
Fifth, dishwasher safe.


First, the middle piece is not attached and can be lost.
Second, it has a high price point.

Overall Rating: One cup out of one cup. This is a great product. It prevents pasta from boiling over and keeps your stove clean, but it is a bit pricey.
