SILVER SPRING, Md, August 17, 2013 – For parents trying to raise their children bilingual, or even just give their children early exposure to a foreign language, finding bilingual books can be tricky. The selection is often thin in bookstores, and many popular favorites that have been translated are available in English or Spanish, but not both. This leaves bilingual families the task of doing the translation themselves.

Luckily, author Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak and Scholastic, Inc have given bilingual families a new option to add to their bookshelf. I Love You Through and Through/Te Quiero, Yo Te Quiero is a short board book that follows a loving narrator as he explains how much he loves the little boy that is the focus of the story. The message is quite simple, “I love all parts of you, and everything you do. I love you for you.”

This type of message is similar to that found in other picture books designed for infants and toddlers, but the text is provided in English and Spanish giving the reader the choice of reading either one or both languages off the page. The artwork, provided by illustrator Caroline Jayne Church, is cute and appropriate to the age range and the narrative of the story.

This book is appropriate to be a first book for infants, or it can be part of a larger library for toddlers. The story is simple and there are very few words per page. The pictures also feature a baby boy, and since babies and toddlers like looking at other babies they should be drawn to the character. Older children will find this book too simple and be bored by listening to it. Although if you are trying to find simple books to teach a bilingual reader, this may function as a simple first reader.
