Expand your palate with these two wine clubs

Two wine clubs that will help expand your palate while at the same time offer you some great wine values.

SEATTLE, Dec. 23, 2015 — It not only can be difficult to find the ideal Christmas gift for your beloved wine drinker, it’s also difficult – at times – to feel as if there’s any way to taste enough good wines from all over the world. Thanks to a couple of great national wine clubs, you can now meet both of those challenges.

Since I started writing about wine in 2008, I’ve always encouraged wine lovers to embrace their own palate — to “like what you drink and drink what you like.” With that comes the challenge to having access to a much greater selection than what most of us have at our local wine shop.

The two wine clubs in this article can set you up with monthly deliveries of quality wines that have been hand-selected by their respective buyers. It’s a great way to taste wines from around the globe without leaving the comfort of your home.

Signing up for wine clubs with wineries is a great way, for sure, to stay plugged in to your favorite wineries at discounted rates; however, you’re limited to what they produce. While I’m not at all trying to discourage you from signing up with as many wineries as you can, there are two new clubs that you should consider joining if you appreciate tasty wines delivered to your door at reasonable prices and service.

Winestyr founder Bob Wilson

Pronounced “wine star,” Winestyr is a relatively new club that offers a very diverse collection of wines and starts its recommendations based on
a simple lifestyle quiz. This quiz aims to help guide club members into wines that fit their preferences. You’ll notice, however, that its collection of wines are all “New World” – not a single bottle from Europe to be found. Over 99 percent of its wines are from wineries in California, and one brand is a Washington winery that produces wines in Argentina.

Winesyr allows you to shop for individual bottles to purchase or to sign up for three- or six-bottle shipments that arrive monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly. Each shipment includes free shipping.

If you want a way to be introduced to some amazing California producers – many of which are under the radar – then be sure to check out Winestyr.

Here’s a brand-new club to the USA that has its origins in Europe. Owner Lisa Kendall partnered with Kenth Poulson to start VinoVersal, which is based on Kenth’s highly successful model in Europe. Kenth started VinoVenue in the Netherlands years ago. Lisa established VinoVersal here and now offers compelling, tasty wine selections from international destinations.

This club does a tremendous job in addressing one of the biggest issues facing most American wine lovers: They tend to drink only wines from this country. While there are amazing wines being made domestically, the USA is far from being the only game in town.

VinoVersal’s current region lies on the heel of Italy, Salento. The team scours the world, seeking out some of the best values going. The wines from Salento are known for their ability to pair in a sublime fashion with meat-based pasta dishes, pizza and grilled meats.

Each quarter. VinoVersal will select a new international wine region to introduce its club members to. You’d be hard pressed to find a better wine club that deals with wines from all over the world than this one.
