LOS ANGELES, December 16, 2015 – New Year’s Eve always brings a new call to action to lose weight, dress better and take better care of ourselves. However, why wait until a certain date? Get started now and get a jump start on your New Year’s resolutions.
Personally, I live and breathe fashion and beauty.
Applied to my own life, “Work. Brand. Slay” motto, it translated into understanding who I was and perhaps how not to be afraid to step outside of my comfort zone in 2016.
Resolution #1 Upgrade your skin game!
Perhaps the skin regime that you used this year still works for you, like sleeping in your make-up (GUILTY). I’m pretty sure, no, I’m positive your skin game needs an upgrade. Not to mention some eye cream, moisturizer with SFP50, and skin recommendations from someone other than YouTube.
To get a head start, I visited KO’AN Center in Santa Monica which not only specializes in in the art of health and beauty for its patients, but also in using cutting edge technology for maximizing ongoing skin care.
The biggest lesson I learned in my visit through getting a personalized skin analysis for the year was that I can’t use multiple products and brands on my skin.
Resolution #2 Remember, flaws are OK!
In other words, the 10 pounds you keep telling yourself that you need to lose in order to feel sexy and confident about yourself is not happening. Can’t tell you how often I hear—in dressing rooms or over brunch—something along the lines of, “I can’t buy this dress until I lose this stomach pouch.”
Look, if you are in the process of losing weight, then this mindset makes kind some sense. But if you’re too busy craving a Instagram body to recognize that the one you have is amazing, flaws and all, well you gotta take your power back!
As someone who has lost over 25 pounds this year, I still shop like I’m still a size 16 when I’m actually a borderline 12.
For 2016, instead of getting caught up in where you want to be or where you came from, wear clothing that makes you look and feel amazing NOW. Celebrity stylist Marcus Jai (Rebecca Crews/ The Family Crews, Dale Godboldo/ American Crime Story: The People vs O.J Simpson) has begun to fine-tune my image and advise me on how to take my slay to the next level. Want to know the first thing on my homework list?? Getting rid of XL shirts when clearly that boat has come and gone.
Start on your fashion slay TOMORROW for 2016.
Resolution #3 Clean Your Make-up Brushes
We get it — this is very time consuming, messy, and you want to avoid it at all costs. Silver lining? It’s not needed every day. If your skin is clear, allergy, and infection free, wiping the bristles on a towel or napkin in between uses will prolong the time in between longer cleanings.
If you are oily and will break out in a New York second like me, wash more frequently. Because I am a fanatic for Sephora (VIP Rouge), which carries travel sizes in almost everything, I’m going to upgrade my brush washing from Johnson’s Baby Shampoo to The Perfect Condition Brush Conditioner and collect beauty points while doing it.
Resolution #4 Find flats that are affordable, chic and comfortable and WEAR them.
Yup- that was my thinking too until I started speaking at conferences this year and had zero time to switch from heels to flats.
This resolution might be a tough one for the ladies under 5’5 as we will always be the shortest chick in any room. In 2016, lets embrace purchasing practical but cute flats to enhance our wardrobe and decrease the weight in our large purses.

Resolution #5 Cut back on #TeamNoSleep
Poor sleep habits that developed during 2015 trying to keep up with #TeamNoSleep will continue to affect how well and how long you can focus on your goals this year.
We all work hard and grind everyday but it can’t be at the expense of your health so this year, let’s cut back on #TeamNoSleep and actually rest.
Recharge your body. Get ready to take the new year with a fresh mind and less stress. It’s time to enjoy the good life.
Resolution #6 Pull off the allusion of a Beyonce “Grown Woman” attitude with a J. Lo everyday slay!
When was the last time you asked for a raise or raised your consulting rates after working far beyond your title or job description? Dropped that dude who was only about that “#NetflixandChill” foolishness? Had girls night out over cocktails?
Can you remember the last time you slayed a dragon and how it felt? It’s time to wake up, get up, and GET YOUR LIFE! It’s going to take ever ounce of energy you have, but I promise you, it will be worth it.
Be overdressed and polished when dressing down this year.
That means investing in things like different color heels outside of black, age-apprioriate crop tops, pencil skirts, a camel pea coat, and statement jewelry from stores beyond H&M even though we all love them.
This also includes ditching your multipurpose gym shoes. For brownie points, dress up every time you fly on an airplane this upcoming year.
For 2016 reclaim your fierceness and slay! You owe it to yourself.. with no explanations.
