Over-prescription fuels pain killer epidemic

Despite the recent focus on addiction to painkillers, the epidemic is likely to continue, thanks to lenient prescription and prescribing too many pills at a time.

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2016 – Despite the recent focus on addiction to painkillers, the epidemic is likely to continue. A new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine explains that not only do doctors prescribe pain meds too liberally, they also dole out too many pills at one time. This leaves open the possibility of taking the drugs long after they are needed.
