The 23rd Season Cast revealed: Derek and Julianne Hough, Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy lead the pros who will partner with TV stars, athletes and other famous names.
SAN DIEGO, August 30, 2016 – The rumor mill turned out to be right on target about the new Season 23 cast of “Dancing With The Stars.” Many names had already leaked out, if you can call them leaks. DWTS posted teaser photos with the pros on its social media accounts. But there were still a few last minute surprises.
The cast had its formal debut with a group appearance by the stars with their assigned professional partners Tuesday morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Since names get out no matter what ABC does, a lot of the stars and pros start their own rumors about themselves and they turn out to be true. We knew there would be a few Olympic athletes, a few stars from our favorite childhood TV shows, a music icon or two, and a crazy choice out of left field.
Jake Austin, 21 and 5-foot-8. Here is the show’s Disney Channel choice. Austin is best known for his role on the series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” and he recently appeared on the ABC Family drama series “The Fosters.” He will dance with pro Jenna Johnson.
Babyface Edmonds, 57 and 5-foot-9. The R&B musician, singer-songwriter and producer has written and produced over 26 number 1 hits over his career and won 11 Grammy Awards, several for songs written and performed by the group Boyz II Men and Alicia Keys. He will dance with pro Allison Holker 5-foot-3.
Marilu Henner, 64 and 5-foot-7. Star of over thirty films, six Broadway shows, and two hit classic sitcoms, “Taxi” and “Evening Shade,” Henner is a five-time Golden Globe and New York Times Best Selling author of ten books on health, parenting, memory, and lifestyle improvement. She will dance with pro Derek Hough 5-foot-10.
Laurie Hernandez, 16 and 5-foot-0. Hernandez is one of the “Final Five” American Olympic Gymnastics Team Gold Medalists and a Silver Medalist on the Balance Beam. Hernandez impressed Olympic watchers with floor exercise routine and for her grace and artistry on the balance beam.She will dance with Val Chmerkovskiy 5-foot-10.
James Hinchcliffe, 29 and 5-foot-9. Hinchcliffe is a Canadian race car driver competingin the IndyCar series. He calls himself the “Mayor of Hinchtown” on social media. He will try to follow in the footsteps of Mirror Ball Trophy winner Helio Castroneves. He will dance with Sharna Burgess 5-foot-6.
Terra Jole, 36 and 4-foot-2. Yes, the height is correct. Jole is a star of the reality series “Little People: LA.” Jole is the star and Executive Producer of Lifetime’s hit TV Shows, Little Women: LA and Terra’s Little Family. Terra also serves as Executive Producer on the popular spin-offs, Little Women: ATL and Little Women: NY. Jole gave birth to her second son on August 1. Terra will dance with Sasha Farber 5-foot-7.
Calvin Johnson, 30 and 6-foot-5. Johnson is a recently retired NFL wide receiver who played his entire career with the Detroit Lions from 2007 to 2015 where he earned the nickname “Megatron”. He will dance with Lindsay Arnold 5-foot-6.
Jana Kramer, 32 and 5-foot-4. The American actress and award-winning country artist. is known for her role as Alex Dupre on the TV series “One Tree Hill.” Her platinum debut single, “Why Ya Wanna,” soared to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2012, making her the most played new artist of that year.
She recently announced a split from her husband, retired NFL player Mike Caussin. She will dance with pro Gleb Savchenko 6-foot-1
Ryan Lochte, 32 and 6-foot-2. The infamous bad actor of the Rio Olympics is a a 12-time Olympic swimming medalist, which ranks him second in swimming behind Michael Phelps. He will dance with Cheryl Burke 5-foot-4, back after several seasons off the show.
Maureen McCormick, 60 and 5-foot-3. “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!” The actress will always be known for her first breakout role as Marcia Brady on the TV sitcom “The Brady Bunch.” She will dance with Artem Chigvintsev 5-foot-10
Rick Perry, 66 and 6-foot-1. Yes as in Governor Perry of Texas. You think he would have thought twice after former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s appearance in Season 3. A veteran of the United States Air Force, a former farmer and the former governor of Texas, Perry will dance with Emma Slater 5-foot-5.
Amber Rose, 32 and 5-foot-9. The American model, actress and fashion designer is known as much for her outrageous red carpet looks and husband, rapper Wiz Khalifa, as anything else. Her signature foundation, The Amber Rose Foundation, is dedicated to women empowerment and equality. She will dance with Maks Chmerkovskiy 6-foot-2.
Vanilla Ice, AKA Matthew Van Winkle, 48 and 6-foot-2. Vanilla Ice won two MTV Awards, a People’s Choice Award and was nominated for a Grammy. He has also appeared in the movies such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Cool as Ice, and Ridiculous Six, with Adam Sandler, and his TV credits include Celebrity Boxing and the DIY shows The Vanilla Ice Project.
The infamous 90s rapper will dance with Witney Carson 5-foot-3.
Season 23 sees the return of pro Derek Hough after a season off, and the return of his sister Julianne Hough to the dance floor after serving as a judge. Part-time judge Maks Chmerkovskiy joins brother Val back on the show as well.
Fans made their disappointment known on social media when they discovered pro Mark Ballas would sit out Season 23 after making the finals of Season 22 with UFC fighter Paige Van Zante. Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli will serve as the judges.
