SAN DIEGO, November 16, 2015 – “Dancing With The Stars” saved one of our favorite themes for the semifinals in Season 21: Trios routines.

The competitors can add any pro already eliminated, or any of the pros from the troupe. Communities is happy to see pro Peta Murgatroyd making her first appearance of Season 21 in the Trios, dancing with Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess. The former Mirror Ball Trophy champion was unable to compete this year due to injury.

In addition to these two routines, the producers have decided to add a head-to-head “Dance Off’ between couples, with the winner adding three additional points to his or her score. It’s Bindi against Nick, and Carlos against Alek. Some fan sites suggest this is a way to give Nick a boost over the odds-on favorite, Bindi, but the matchups also appear to be the number one and two dancers by overall points, and the number three and four dancers.

If it seems like a couple is missing this week, you’re right. Tamar Braxton withdrew from the competition due to illness, after a drama-filled show on Monday where she apparently left her hospital bed to come back and perform to stay in the competition. It meant Alexa PenaVega. Alexa and partner Mark Ballas made an emotional exit after their best performance of the season, a perfect score for their Contemporary routine.

High drama and mad fans after elimination on “Dancing With The Stars”

Many fans have expressed the desire to see Alexa and Mark brought back via social media and fan blogs. No word from producers whether they’ve considered it.

So we are down to four couples, which is usually the semifinals. Does it mean no one will be eliminated this week, and we get to see the final four twice? No one at DWTS is saying.

Join Communities for our weekly Live Online Chat on Monday at 8 p.m. ET to see whether someone gets eliminated this week.
