CHICAGO, IL, June 22, 2014 – We left Bon Temps at the end of Season 6 as gangs of Hep V-infected vampires have been crawling through the countryside, pillaging and plundering and generally enjoying a blood buffet. Newley elected Mayor Sam Merlotte is paring “nice” vampires with townsfolk’s in a blood for protection swap.
Executive producer Brain Buckner has said that the goal of the next season is to “narrow the number of separate stories” the show is telling.
One of those loose story lines we hope to see tied up is that of Tara (Rutina Wesley) and her opportunistic mom, Lettie Mae (Adina Porter). Tara has been turned and Lettie Mae has offered her blood to Tara saying “I thought I never could forgive myself, but if you let me, Tara, I could make this right for the both of us. Come here, let me feed you.”
Tara is not very gentle with mom.
There is Sheriff Andy Bellfleur (Chris Bauer) whose half-fairy daughters were nearly wiped out by Vampire Bill’s progeny Jessica (Deborah Ann Wold). In an act of contrition, Jessica promises to protect Andy and his fae daughters, but without the blood exchange.
And then we have Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) who we last saw very naked (a fan favorite, or at least female fans) Eric, sunbathing (sun normally being an anathema to the bloodsuckers) on a snow covered mountain somewhere in Sweden, from whence he came some thousand years ago or so. And then we wonder about Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) Eric’s no. 1 progeny who is off in search of her maker.
We will be watching to see if Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is able to resolve her infatuation with No. 1 vamp Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer, and Paquin’s real world husband).
Looking back at Season 6, Bill became Billith, with ultimate powers and the ability to walk in the sun after drinking the blood of the very first vampire, Lillith, who is, a vengeful god. Even as Bill’s powers are mellowing, his lack of compassion is nothing less than epic.
Except when it comes to Sookie. She has the blood that makes his boil.
Another story that has us all intrigued is what will happen with Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) a shape-shifter who is now mayor of Bon Temps and who has finally decided to aggressively act on his deep feelings for his number one waitress at Merlottes, which is now run by Arlene whose husband, a fan favorite, Terry, set up his own death.
This season also promises the apex of the war between the humans and the vampires that we taken to new heights of dearly departed Governor Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard), who lost his head in the last season only to have holier than thou Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) take over as commander of the fight against the evil of vampires.
and, as teased at the end of the last season, it should open with the Bon Temps town folks under attack from the Hep V-vamps.
