LOS ANGELES, February 18, 2016 — LightSpeedGo is a four-piece punk band out of Arizona. The band recently signed to Felony Records and is set to release an EP, Just A Memory, via Felony on February 26. Recently, bass player and singer Paul Levesque took some time to answer some questions regarding the band, Arizona, and their upcoming releases.

Was bass your first instrument?

Yes, I started playing bass when I was 14, I think it was. I played bass for a few bands then switched over to guitar and played guitar in couple bands as well.

What made you want to play bass?

Honestly…haha. One of my friends played guitar, one of my friends played drums. We wanted to start a band, so it was the only position available.

What bands got you into punk rock?

Green Day was the biggest band that got me into punk rock., but from there, the flood gates really opened up. I got really into No Use For a Name, Face To Face, Nofx, Strung Out, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, mostly all the Epitaph and Fat bands. Where I am from there wasn’t a place to really go out and buy punk rock albums besides the bands that were being shown on MTV, like Green Day, Rancid, and Offspring. So, it was mail order from the old skate mags and a lot of driving. I actually remember skipping school and getting in my buddy’s car, driving for an hour just to get Lagwagon Duh, haha.

Have you always lived in Arizona?

I am originally from Western, MA. I joined the Air Force to see the world…I saw Texas and Arizona. I liked the weather here so I never went back.

What is the punk scene like there?

The punk scene is starting to pick up here. It was pretty stagnant for a while, but there has been a lot of new bands forming and older bands reunited. It is definitely heading in the right direction. One big thing that has helped is that they put the Go Punk Yourself show back on the air on FM radio.

How did LightSpeedGo form?

A mutual friend of Rico and I played punk band match maker and got us in contact with each other. We were both coming out of other projects and looking for something new. I have played in bands with Marty since we were in high school. He was down to jam. After about six months, we decided we wanted to add a second guitar. Rico said he knew a guy, that guy was JD. They had played in a band together before. LightSpeedGo is what happens when Off The Mark and No Gimmick have a baby, haha.

What is the song writing process for the band like?

For the most part, we come to practice with song ideas, show them to the rest of the band and mold them into LSG songs.

Have the Star Wars people contacted you about your logo yet?

HAHA! Not yet, but I am sure they will be knocking on our doors if we ever make any money!

You’ve got a couple releases coming out, an EP on Felony Records due out at the end of February and an split with Guttermouth and No Gimmick. First, how did the deal with Felony Records come about?

I met Ron at Punk Rock Bowling a few years back. I told him about LightSpeedGo and he said he would check us out. The following year I ran into him again at Punk Rock Bowling. It was when the news about our split with Guttermouth was in the works. He said he wanted to put out a LightSpeedGo record on Felony. After the drunkenness wore off from PRB, I remembered him saying that he wanted to do a record with us. I emailed him and we started talking and now we are happily part of the Felony Family!

When is the Guttermouth split being released?

I am hoping for about the same time as our EP, but nothing concrete yet. I do have a copy of the test press though and it sounds awesome! Everyone should go buy it!

Do you guys have any touring plans for 2016?

We are hoping to do some touring this summer. Trying to get everybody’s vacation time all lined up and everything is a little tough. But, we would like to at least have some west coast date coming here soon.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about yourself, the band or anything you are working on?

We have already started writing for the next release. This one will be our first full length. So hopefully by this time next year we will be back in the studio! I like short walks on the beach, tacos, pizza, cheap beer, and Star Wars! HAHA Thanks, Kevin!
